Our New Year’s Resolution for all our curly girls, is to embrace their luscious locks! Whether you have wavy, curly or kinky hair, 2018 is YOUR year to #Care4TheCurl. Loving your hair means understanding it and everything that it is capable of. Because curly hair is naturally more voluminous than most, it adds a unique texture to basic hairstyles. Curly hair extensions are extremely versatile, so we chose a few of our favorite looks to start your New Year off with a bang!

long natural curly hair

One our favorite #curlfriends, YouTuber Bri Hall, reminds us that the classic pony will never go out of style. The ponytail is both effortless and timeless. All you have to do is slick back your hair (tip: deep side parts are very in style at the moment!) with gel or a leave in conditioner, and let your curls fall free in a relaxed low ponytail. You can let your curly ponytail hang to the side as pictured above or in the back, depending on the look you are going for. This look can be easily achieved with our Clip In Ponytails.

This braided boho style looks great on singer, Justine Skye! This low maintenance look is both sexy and glam. It’s a great look for drinks with the girls or on a date night. Simply part your hair down the middle and create a braid on each side of your head. Secure the braid with a clear elastic band. Complete the look with our clip in hair extensions or our Wavy Tape In Hair. You will surely be the center of attention as you rock these luscious and loose natural looking waves! You can easily play along with curly hair too.

Add a little glitz to your favorite wash-n-go like Chelli of Chelli’s Curls! The best wash-and-go’s are achieved by keeping the hair properly hydrated. For the best results, make sure to deep condition your hair at least once a month. Hydrated curls are less likely to frizz up throughout the day and will maintain the ultimate shine. For added volume, insert our Steam Permed Weave. To glam up a curly style, slick down one side and finish the look off by adding some decorative bobby pins.

Each of these incredible looks can work for all textures and varieties of curls. To celebrate our #curlcrushes, all of our curly hair weaves are now on sale! Comment below which look you will be rocking in the New Year!

Starting the Year Right: Curly Hair Goals That Actually Stick

"Every January we hear from curly-haired customers who want to finally figure out their hair. The ones who succeed aren't the ones who try the most products or the most complex routines - they're the ones who commit to two or three good habits and stay consistent. Consistency beats complexity every time with curly hair."

- Priyanka Swamy, Founder of Perfect Locks

The Curly Hair Habits That Make the Biggest Difference

Deep condition every week without fail: This single habit does more for curly hair than any other. Apply a moisture-rich mask weekly, leave on for 20-30 minutes with a plastic cap and gentle heat, rinse with cool water. After 4-6 weeks of consistency, the difference in curl definition, frizz reduction, and overall health is significant.

Apply products to soaking wet hair: Curly hair products need water to activate and distribute evenly. "Damp" isn't wet enough. Step out of the shower, apply your leave-in and curl cream immediately while water is still dripping from your hair, and scrunch upward. Don't wait until hair is half-dry.

Stop touching while drying: The urge to check, separate, or scrunch while curly hair is drying is almost universal. Resist it. Every touch while the hair is drying disrupts the curl clumping pattern and causes frizz. Put product in, scrunch once, and walk away until completely dry.

Switch your pillowcase: A silk or satin pillowcase reduces the friction that disrupts curl pattern and causes frizz overnight. One of the lowest-effort, highest-impact changes you can make.

Adding Length and Volume with Curly Extensions

If embracing your natural curls is a goal this year but your natural hair isn't yet the length or fullness you want, curly clip-in extensions let you see the vision while you grow. Install them on wash days when your natural curl pattern is freshly defined for the most seamless blend. Our textured extensions come in curl patterns designed to match different natural curl types - from loose waves to tight coils.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start a curly hair routine?

Start simple: sulfate-free shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, leave-in conditioner applied to soaking wet hair, and one styling product (either a curl cream or a light gel). Apply everything while hair is soaking wet and let air dry without touching. Do this consistently for 4-6 weeks before judging the results or adding more products.

What are the basics of curly hair care?

The non-negotiables: sulfate-free shampoo, consistent deep conditioning (weekly), products applied to very wet hair, no brushing when dry (fingers only), satin or silk pillowcase for sleeping, and patience with the process. Everything else - specific products, routines, techniques - is built on this foundation.
