Tinsel can last anywhere from 1 to 8 weeks depending on how it's tied and how much you handle it. If you tie it with a secure knot near the root, it'll stay in through washing, brushing, and heat styling. It naturally falls out as individual strands loosen over time - most people add a few fresh strands as older ones come out.

That said, try not to clamp your flat iron directly on the knot where the tinsel is tied, since that can weaken the attachment point.

You have two options. The gentlest way is to locate the knot near your root, hold the tinsel strand, and carefully slide the knot down the length of your hair until it slides off the end. If that's tricky, you can simply cut the tinsel strand close to the knot with small scissors. Either way, your natural hair is unaffected.

For a bolder, more festive look, 30 to 50 strands will give you that full shimmer effect. You can always start with fewer and add more until you're happy with the amount of sparkle.
