Aisha's Struggle with Cancer and Story of Survival

When Aisha was diagnosed with a traumatic illness, she didn't want to disappear. She wanted to find a way back to herself.

When Aisha was diagnosed with a traumatic illness earlier this year, her life changed drastically. Unwilling to let it stop her, she began searching for a wig that could give her back something cancer had taken - the feeling of looking in the mirror and recognizing herself.

She found us at our Walnut Creek showroom. After trying a few options, she landed on a 16" Straight Full Lace Wig - 100% Remy human hair, hand-tied lace from front to back. The lace meant she could style it any way she liked: ponytail, updo, parted to the side. The Remy hair meant it would last and behave like her own.

Nick Sanchez, one of our salon stylists, fitted and styled the wig for her. As he worked, the room shifted. By the time he finished, Aisha was looking at herself in the mirror with a smile she hadn't expected to wear that day.

Finally, something good has come out of an incredibly difficult situation.

Aisha, after her wig fitting

Aisha's full story is in the video above. We hear versions of it often - women navigating treatment, looking for something that feels like themselves again - and this is exactly the work we want to be doing.

If you're navigating treatment-related hair loss

Aisha's situation is one we work with often, and we approach it differently than a standard product consultation. A few things we want anyone in this position to know.

Human hair feels different against a sensitive scalp. Synthetic wigs can be heavier, hotter, and itchier - especially during treatment when scalps are tender. Our human hair wigs for cancer patients are made from 100% Remy hair specifically because the cuticle stays intact and breathes naturally.

Full lace gives you styling freedom most caps don't. If you want to wear your hair up or part it differently day to day, lace front alone won't get you there - you need full lace. It costs more, but for daily wear during a long treatment cycle, it's worth it.

You don't have to figure this out alone. Our consultations are free and we look at every photo personally. If you're at the start of treatment or somewhere in the middle, send us a message at the match quiz and we'll point you toward what fits your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hair options work best during chemotherapy?

Human hair wigs are usually the most comfortable choice because they breathe better against a sensitive scalp than synthetic alternatives. A full lace cap gives you the most styling flexibility - you can part it anywhere or pull it back. Hair toppers are an option for partial thinning. We recommend talking with your oncology team about timing and scalp sensitivity before choosing any method.

Can you fit and style a wig for someone going through cancer treatment?

Yes. Our salon stylists work with cancer patients and survivors regularly and approach the consultation with the care it deserves. We can fit, customize, and style your wig at our Walnut Creek showroom, or guide you remotely if you can't travel. The fitting is private and unrushed.

What's the difference between a full lace wig and a lace front wig?

A lace front wig has lace only at the hairline - the rest of the cap is wefted. A full lace wig is hand-tied lace across the entire scalp, which lets you part the hair anywhere and wear it pulled back without revealing wefts. Full lace costs more but gives you the most styling freedom.

Does Perfect Locks help children with cancer find wigs?

Yes. Through our partnership with Oakland Children's Hospital, we provide one free human hair wig per month to a child in treatment. If you or a loved one is connected to the hospital, contact our showroom and we'll guide you through the process.
