At Perfect Locks, we're huge proponents of giving back to our community. Faith came to us through our partnership with Oakland Children's Hospital. Because of her rare blood condition and her connection to the hospital, she was the first child to come through the program.
Faith wasn't looking for glamour. She was looking for normalcy. She wanted to be a kid - to wear a ponytail without thinking about it, to look in the mirror and see herself.
When Faith and her family arrived at our Walnut Creek showroom, our associate Journie walked them through the wig room. They were surprised at how many options there were. Faith and her mom narrowed it down to two, both Wavy Full Lace Wigs. Faith sat at our vanity, a little excited, a little nervous.
The first wig went on. Her face lit up. Her mother said it looked like the hair Faith had right before she lost it. Then the second one - and her whole demeanor changed. It was comfortable, it looked like her natural hair, and it could go up in a ponytail or bun. That was the one.
The following week, Faith came back to our Walnut Creek salon for the install. Celebrity stylist Alba Randolph trimmed the lace, installed the wig, and styled it. By the time Alba was done, Faith was lit up from inside - the kind of joy that's been missing for a while and is suddenly back.
She said it was super comfortable and looked like her natural hair. She loved that she could wear it in a high ponytail or bun. This was the wig for her.
About our Children's Hospital partnership
Through our partnership with Oakland Children's Hospital (now UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital), Perfect Locks provides one free human hair wig per month to a child in treatment. The program is part of our broader giving-back work.
If your child is connected to the hospital and needs a wig: reach out to our Walnut Creek showroom and we'll guide you through the process. The fitting is private, unrushed, and built around what makes your child comfortable. We'll help select, customize, install, and style the wig.
For families outside the program: we keep our pediatric consultations gentle and patient-led. Children's scalps are often more sensitive than adults', and the right cap construction matters. Our team has fitted wigs for kids across a range of medical situations - reach out and we'll meet you where you are.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can children wear human hair wigs?
Yes. Human hair wigs are often the most comfortable choice for children because they breathe better than synthetic and behave like natural hair when styled. The cap construction matters more than for adults - softer linings, lighter weight, and adjustable sizing all make a difference. We fit pediatric wigs at our Walnut Creek showroom and approach the fitting at the child's pace.
How does Perfect Locks' Children's Hospital partnership work?
Through our partnership with Oakland Children's Hospital (UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital), we provide one free human hair wig per month to a child in treatment. Eligible families work with hospital social workers or contact our showroom directly. We guide the family through selection, customization, fitting, and styling at no cost.
What's the best wig style for a child going through treatment?
The right answer depends on the child. We've seen kids choose everything from styles that match their pre-treatment hair to entirely new looks. The priorities for fit are: a soft, breathable cap; adjustable sizing as the child grows; and a length and weight that doesn't feel cumbersome for daily wear. We bring options to the consultation and let the child decide what feels right.
Do you offer wig consultations for families who can't travel to Walnut Creek?
Yes. We do remote consultations by video and email. Families send photos and information about hair history and preferences, and we walk through options together. If shipping the wig is the right path, we can do that with detailed at-home fitting guidance, or coordinate with a local stylist.
