How To Install Clip-In Extensions On Natural Hair

how to install clip-in-hair-extensions

While wearing hair extensions used to have a slightly negative stigma, women (and even men) today have embraced the versatility and advantages of faux hair.  Whether it is to enhance your length or volume, change your color or texture, preserve and protect your hair, or some other reason – hair extensions can be a fun and convenient addition to your styling repertoire.  That being said, there are still women who are hesitant to wear full head weaves.  Maybe you do not want a long-term commitment, perhaps your scalp is too sensitive to remain braided, or just maybe you are a novice to weave wearing and have a bit of uncertainty.  If this is you, Perfect Locks clip on hair extensions are the perfect solution!

Clip in hair extensions have the benefit of being a non-damaging, temporary way to add length, color, or volume to your tresses.  Perfect Locks Clip In Hair Extensions comes with ten pieces of varying wefted lengths, more than enough to completely transform your look.

Clip in hair extensions are so easy to install, tools aren’t even required.  Simply use your fingers to part your hair horizontally starting near the base of your neck.  Open the clip on one of the shorter clip weave pieces and push the combs into your hair at the roots, near the base of your scalp.  If you have fine or thin hair, tease your natural hair a bit for a more secure hold.  Once the combs are pushed securely into your natural hair, push the clip closed, a click will confirm that it was closed.

Part another section of your hair about one inch above that piece of clip weave and comb the hair overtop to blend.  Select another piece, being sure it is not wider than the area on which you are working.  Repeat the parting and clipping process.  Some heads may require all ten pieces to create a flawless full look whereas others may only need a few wefts added in the back.  You can also use the clip weave pieces to create a bang in the front of you head.

Section & Prepare for Install

Start off by using the end of the rat-tail comb to part a 1-inch section of your hair at the nape of your neck. If you have silky or fine hair, try backcombing small sections of your hair where the clips will be placed. You can also create small ponytails with the rubber bands to give the clips a strong base to hold on to. These tips will prevent your clip-ins from sliding out of place.

Open the clips and secure them to the prepared sections of hair. The wefts will be secured once you hear (and feel) them snapping closed. To ensure a seamless blend between your hair and the extensions, be sure to brush the hair after each weft is installed. This allows for a smooth transition from your hair to the extensions that’s virtually undetectable!

Install Those Beautiful Tracks

We recommend using the smaller wefts at the top and sides of the head, the largest wefts at the crown (temple to temple), and the medium sized wefts at the nape of the neck. This placement will give you length as well as volume. Repeat the tips provided above to secure your wefts in place.

Blend & Style Your Hair

For the best possible blend, be mindful of your weft placement. Make sure that you place the clip-ins in areas where you have enough hair to fully cover the weft. You don’t want any wefts peeking through your hair! After installing the hair, be sure to style the hair as you normally would. Perfect Locks hair is 100% Remy human hair so it can withstand heat and be styled as desired for an outstanding look.

That's it! While it is easy to put clip in extensions, it can also be removed easily. Once you’ve installed the amount of clip ins you desire, you can either comb all of your hair straight down to rock a long sleek style, add waves or spirals with a curling wand, or even take some of the length off to create an edgy cut.  The possibilities are truly endless.  At the end of the night, open the clips and gently remove the combs.  Painless and pretty, clip in hair extensions are awesome!

Clip-ins are a simple solution to upgrading your hair. With these easy steps, you’ll be a clip-in pro in no time! Be sure to tag us (@perfectlocks) and use #myperfectlocks to show off your beautiful clip-in installations!
