Relieve an Itchy Scalp While Wearing a Sew In Weave

Reading Relieve an Itchy Scalp While Wearing a Sew In Weave 3 minutes Next How to Make an Easy Homemade Clarifying Shampoo

There are a lot of reasons why your scalp may itch after getting sew in weave. It can be because the sew-in weave was installed too tightly or you are sensitive to the materials used in the extensions, which can cause an allergic reaction or irritation.

Other reasons why your scalp may itch after installation include product buildup, improper hygiene, dry scalp and constant friction between the extensions.

Itchy Scalp Problem

Here are some tips to help relieve the itchiness and maintain the health of your scalp:

1. Shampoo and condition your hair thoroughly before having your sew in done.

Proper shampooing at least biweekly will help prevent itchiness from even occurring. Aim for a balance and don't wash your hair too frequently. While keeping your scalp clean is important, overwashing can strip your scalp of natural oils and cause dryness.

2. Applying soothing oils to your scalp.

Create a mixture with a few drops of tea tree or arghan oil and your favorite carrier oil such as grape seed, olive or coconut oils in a nozzle tip applicator bottle and shake well.

The nozzle tip makes it possible to apply the oils directly to your scalp around and through the extensions and braids. Tea tree oil is antibacterial and anti-fungal while adding a refreshing tingle to your scalp. Be careful not to over saturate your scalp because oil the oil will begin to run down your hair and oily extensions are not cute!

3. Apply dry shampoo to your scalp

These formulas are usually available in aerosol cans and can be sprayed between your tracks to help absorb excess oil and remove product buildup. They are amazing for a quick fix if you do not have time to shampoo your hair.

4. Keep Your Scalp Clean

It's essential to maintain a clean scalp to prevent the buildup of oils, dirt, and sweat that can contribute to itchiness. Use a sulfate-free shampoo to cleanse your scalp, and make sure to rinse thoroughly.

5. Diluted Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple cider vinegar has natural antifungal and antibacterial properties that can help soothe an itchy scalp. Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water, apply the mixture to your scalp, and rinse it out after a few minutes.

6. Avoid Scratching

Scratching your scalp can make the itchiness worse and potentially damage your sew-in weave. Instead of scratching, gently pat or massage your scalp to relieve itch.

7. Maintain Proper Hydration

Drinking enough water and maintaining overall hydration can help keep your scalp and skin healthy. Make sure to hydrate yourself. It won't just relieve the itch but will make your skin glow too! Win-win, right?

8. Avoid Heavy Products

Avoid using heavy styling products that can weigh down your hair and contribute to buildup on the scalp. Opt for lightweight products that won't clog your hair follicles.

Back in the day, you could spot a weave wearer with an itchy scalp a mile away because she walked down the street patting herself in the head to relieve the discomfort.

Remember Beyonce’s infamous lyric:  Pat yo’ weave ladies! Do not become this woman; Instead use these tips to alleviate your itchy scalp while wearing a sew in weave!
