Every year when it comes to fashion and hair that is more artistic than street practical, everyone tunes into the Met Gala to see who slayed (or tripped). This year the Met Gala paid tribute to the fashion genius and work of the late, great Karl Lagerfeld. We rounded up some of the best hairstyles we couldn’t stop talking about from the biggest night in fashion! Kim Kardashian’s Regal 90’s Updo When it comes to making a statement on the Red Carpet, Kim K rarely disappoints. Swept up into a crowning bouffant, a sleek center pair and face framing tendrils of hair was inspired by runway looks of the 90s.

Cardi B Goes PLATINUM
Wearing a Thom Browne dress, Cardi B stole the carpet in a shiny, black dress made of black roses that drifted upward into a tight bodice and sleeveless shirt and tie. It was her hair however the crowned the look, in shimmering platinum silver (courtesy of a truly fantastic human hair wig) that was pulled back into a bumped bouffant with a velvet headband.
Maya Hawke’s Retro Shag
Wearing a beautiful white floral dress with a high collar, Maya Hawke rocked one of the most popular haircuts for summer 2023: the wavy shag. Dominating for the past three years, this textured look has gone through many variations: from the “wolf cut” to the “octopus cut”. In a sandy, coppery brown and a matte finish, Maya looked like she just ran in out of the sea at Monte Carlo.
Precious Lee’s Massive Mane!
For Precious Lee’s look, celebrity hairdresser Mideyah Parker created a waist length mane of rich, chocolate brown colored hair with “peek a boo” highlights around the hairline. A thick leather headband lifted the hair up and away from the face to a slightly teased bump at the crown, a nod to Naomi Campbell’s runway look in 1994. The overall color blend in the hair was ribbon.
Yara Shahidi’s Sleek, Shiny, Simple Waves
Actress Yara Shahidi, best known for her role on “Black-ish” demonstrates that not every hairstyle has to be complex. Wearing a stunning Jean Paul Gaultier dress with a pearl iridescent bodice, her hair was sleek, shiny and simple with a side part. When asked about her look, Yara said she drew inspiration from ‘90s Chanel shows where Naomi Campbell, Yasmeen Ghauri and Cindy Crawford dominated with their long, shiny, wavy hair.
Halle Bailey’s Curly Bob
Halle Bailey, star of the Little Mermaid, stepped out in a beautiful Gucci gown with a sheer lace halter neck, but what had everyone guessing was the natural texture to wavy, curled bob. Dripping with old Hollywood glamor, the braided base transitions into a curly voluminous bob that incorporates hair extensions for a beautiful mix of natural texture and sleek, straight hair.
“Queen” Quinta Brunson’s Sculpted Updo
Out of every single look on the carpet, it was Quinta Brunson’s epic sculpted braided updo. Wearing a Prabal Gurung pink dress with black tulle, the hairstyle featured braids drawn upward into three rounded buns or beautifully textured coils in the shape of a 3 leaf clover with pink feathers placed inside. But most dreamily was the slicked down, artistic baby hairs framing her face like an art deco flapper!
