You asked and we listened…We are now offering colored hand-tied rows! Our hand-tied rows are ethically sourced and single drawn Remy human hair. All of our colored hair goes through a PigmentPlus+ Ammonia free process, which is non-damaging while maintaining the integrity of the hair. Our hand-tied rows are available in 3 textures and 6 colors! We're very excited about this launch for you guys… and we hope you are too!
What Are Hand Tied Rows & Why Should I Use Them?
We've been offering virgin hand-tied wefts for a very long time, hand-tied rows are basically half-packs of those, but available in multiple colors! Hand-tied rows are bound by hand and are much thinner than a machine weft. The weft lays flat, which gives you a more natural look. Since the wefts are so thin, you can install them closer to the crown. Hand-tied rows are perfect for people who are thinning or have fine hair. They're perfect to add volume, length, or thickness! They're also perfect for women who want to avoid using glue or heat on their hair. Hand-tied rows are comfortable to wear and are comfortable to the touch! If you're worried about styling, it is only limited to how the wefts are installed. Otherwise… Go crazy!

How Are Hand-Tied Rows Installed?
Installing hand-tied rows can be a little complicated, however, if you have the right stylist, you won’t regret getting them! A lot of stylists have the misconception that you can’t cut the weft, but we say, “You can”. We talked to our celebrity stylist, Alba Randolph, to have her input and she shared that “if you cut the weft, it needs to be sealed or else it will shed. Since it’s a hand-tied weft, you would need to put a sealant and give it 24 hours to dry prior to installation.” By cutting the weft, you can have the option to layer as much as you’d like!
There are a couple of ways to install hand-tied rows; the Natural Beaded Row Method (aka NBR Method) or a weaving/sewing method. For the NBR Method, you use microbeads for the installation. Your stylist will attach beads with some thread to your head creating rows on your natural hair, then they will place the wefts accordingly, and attach the hair with pliers onto the rows. You can also choose the weaving/sewing method! This method consists of creating braided rows of your natural hair across your head. Then your stylist will take a C-curved needle and thread and weave the weft with your hair, creating a bond. Both of these methods are perfect for a beautiful, natural look!

How Long Do They Last & When Do I Need To Re-adjust?
Since everybody’s hair grows differently, it can depend on when you would need an adjustment. We do recommend to have an adjustment every 6 weeks or so. The longevity of the hair also depends on the caretaker. Our wefts last for 12+ months given the proper care and maintenance. For regular washing use Sulfate-free or Paraben-free products so the hair will stay tangle-free, to prevent future issues. Make sure to gently detangle and brush the hair, we recommend using a loop brush, since the hair won’t snag.
Can I Do Daily Activities With The Hair In?
Yes! You can still do your day to day activities with our hair! You can exercise, swim, etc. To prevent tangling or knotting at night or while working out, make sure to tie up your hair in a bun, ponytail, or braid. Before swimming, we recommend having your hair up, so the chlorine won’t discolor the hair. If you do want to go underwater, wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo afterward. This will help to take out the chlorine and other impurities. After working out, make sure to rinse the hair to remove any build-up that may have occurred.

Can I Use Heating Tools Or Products In The Hair?
Yes, you can use heating tools and products on the hair! We do recommend for you to use a setting under 450 F, anything higher will damage the hair. Our hair's cuticle-intact which means it will go back to its natural texture once washed. We recommend using sulfate-free and paraben-free products, so the hair stays nice and healthy. Argan oils and deep conditioners are going to be your best friends, so the hair can retain all the moisture you’re giving it!
We hope you are as excited as we are about our newest addition to Perfect Locks!

Hand-Tied Weft Extensions: A Deeper Dive
Hand-tied weft extensions represent one of the most significant innovations in the hair extension industry - a method that delivers the natural movement and flatness of individual strand extensions with the durability and coverage of traditional weft hair. Here's what makes them different and who they work best for.
"Hand-tied wefts changed the game for our clients with finer or thinner hair who wanted a longer-term extension option. The thinness of the weft is the key - it lies so flat against the head that even people with fine hair can wear them without any visible bulk. Combined with ethically sourced Remy hair, they're one of our most premium options."
- Priyanka Swamy, Founder of Perfect Locks
Hand-Tied vs Machine Weft: The Key Differences
Construction: Machine wefts are sewn by machine, creating a thicker, denser track at the top. Hand-tied wefts are sewn entirely by hand with a very thin thread, creating a track that's often 3-4 times thinner than a machine weft. This thinness is what allows hand-tied wefts to lie almost completely flat against the head.
Weight: Hand-tied wefts are lighter than machine wefts of comparable coverage because there's less material in the weft track. For women with fine or thin hair, this reduced weight is the difference between extensions that feel comfortable and ones that cause tension headaches or scalp soreness.
Installation: Both hand-tied and machine wefts can be installed with beads (no glue, no heat). The hand-tied weft's thinner track makes bead installation easier and allows for a row placement that sits closer to the scalp without being visible.
Movement: Because hand-tied wefts are more flexible than machine wefts, they move more naturally with the hair. This creates a look that's harder to distinguish from natural hair than machine weft extensions.
Who Are Hand-Tied Weft Extensions Best For?
Ideal candidates
- Women with fine or thin natural hair who need a lightweight option
- Anyone wanting long-term wear with natural movement
- Women who want to wear high ponytails or updos without visible wefts
- Those who have experienced discomfort with thicker machine weft extensions
- Anyone willing to invest in a longer-lasting, reusable method
Consider other options if
- You prefer a DIY/at-home extension method
- You want a lower upfront cost (hand-tied installation is specialized and priced accordingly)
- Your hair has very low density - very sparse hair may not have enough to anchor the rows
Caring for Hand-Tied Weft Extensions
Hand-tied wefts are maintained similarly to beaded weft extensions, with a few specific considerations:
Brushing: Use a soft paddle brush or loop brush, always starting from the ends and working upward. Hold the hair below the bead row while detangling to prevent pulling on the beads. Never brush harshly near the weft track, which is more delicate than a machine weft.
Washing: Wash in downward, smoothing motions rather than circular scrubbing. Avoid vigorous rubbing near the bead rows. Rinse thoroughly, then gently squeeze out water with a microfiber towel. Air dry whenever possible.
Move-up appointments: Schedule every 6-8 weeks. At these appointments, your stylist opens the beads, slides them up to account for new hair growth, and re-crimps. The hand-tied weft hair itself can last 12-18 months through multiple move-up appointments with proper care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hand-tied weft extension?
A hand-tied weft is a panel of hair extension sewn by hand onto a very thin, flexible thread track - typically 3-4 times thinner than a machine weft. The thin track allows the extension to lie flat against the head, creating a more natural look and feel than thicker machine weft extensions. They're installed using beads without glue or heat.
How long do hand-tied weft extensions last?
The extension hair itself lasts 12-18 months with proper care through multiple move-up appointments. Move-up appointments are needed every 6-8 weeks to account for new natural hair growth - at each appointment, the beads are repositioned rather than the hair being replaced. This makes hand-tied wefts one of the more cost-effective semi-permanent options over time.
Are hand-tied extensions good for fine hair?
Yes - hand-tied wefts are one of the best options for fine hair specifically because of their lightweight construction. The thin weft track and lighter weight put less tension on fine natural hair than thicker machine wefts. Many women with fine hair who found traditional sew-in extensions too heavy find hand-tied wefts comfortable and natural-looking.
Can you feel hand-tied extensions?
Hand-tied extensions installed with beads are much less detectable by touch than clip-in or even machine weft extensions. Most people who wear them say they forget they're in after the first day or two. The flat, thin weft track and the close-to-scalp placement of the bead rows creates an installation that's genuinely difficult to detect even to a person running their hands through the hair.
