Here at Perfect Locks we love to give back to the community and to help others. As we are nearing a close to Breast Cancer Awareness month, we wanted to do 2 things to give back this year:
- Share a special story with you about Aisha (see below).
- Auction two pink custom made wigs, all of the proceeds will go to the Oakland Children’s Hospital! Want to learn how to participate in the auction, read below!
Aisha’s #PerfectMe Story of Survival
Perfect Locks partners with the Oakland Children’s Hospital to provide a free wig each month to a child in need. Earlier this year, Aisha was informed of a traumatic diagnosis which drastically changed her life. To build her confidence, and regain some normalcy, she started a search for a human hair wig to reclaim her look once again.
Aisha came in to our showroom in Walnut Creek, California for a custom wig fitting and decided to go with our Straight 16” Full Lace Wig. Our full lace wig provides her with more hairstyling possibilities while giving her a totally natural look. We then had our Perfect Locks Salon Stylist, Nick Sanchez, install the wig for her! As he was installing the wig, you could see Aisha's demeanor change. You could feel the excitement coming off of her! Needless to say, she was thrilled with the final result! Want to hear her inspiring story, watch the video above!

Wigs and Hair Loss from Cancer: A Complete Guide
Losing hair during cancer treatment is one of the most emotionally significant side effects for many women. Finding the right wig - one that looks natural, feels comfortable against a sensitive scalp, and holds up to daily wear - makes a real difference to how women feel during this period.
"We take our cancer patient wig consultations more seriously than any other type of consultation we do. This isn't about finding a style that looks nice in photos - it's about helping someone feel like themselves during one of the hardest experiences of their life. We've seen firsthand how much the right hair solution matters. We're always honored to be part of that journey."

Choosing a Wig for Cancer-Related Hair Loss
Human hair vs. synthetic: Human hair wigs can be heat styled, washed, and worn exactly like natural hair. They have a natural movement and feel that synthetic wigs typically can't replicate. For daily wear over an extended period, human hair is generally more comfortable and more natural-looking. Our wigs for cancer patients are made from ethically sourced 100% Remy Indian hair.
Cap construction: A monofilament cap allows natural movement of individual hairs and creates the most realistic scalp appearance. Lace front caps provide a natural-looking hairline. Both are more breathable and comfortable against a sensitized scalp than fully constructed wefted caps.
Color matching before treatment begins: If possible, consult with us before hair loss begins to color match and order a wig that closely matches your current hair. Having the wig ready before hair loss occurs gives you the option to transition gradually rather than abruptly.
Caring for Your Wig During Treatment
Wash every 1-2 weeks with fragrance-free, sulfate-free shampoo. Handle gently - wet wigs are fragile. Air dry on a wig stand. Apply a small amount of argan oil to the lengths for shine and moisture. Store on a wig stand when not wearing to maintain the cap shape.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best wig for cancer patients?
A human hair wig with a monofilament or lace front cap construction offers the most natural look and feel for daily wear during treatment. Human hair moves naturally, can be styled, and feels more comfortable against a sensitized scalp than synthetic alternatives. The most important factors are breathable cap construction for scalp comfort and precise color matching so the wig closely resembles your natural hair.
Are wigs covered by insurance for cancer patients?
Coverage varies by insurer and plan. Many health insurers cover a "cranial prosthesis" (the medical term for a wig worn due to medically-induced hair loss) when prescribed by a physician. Request a prescription from your oncologist specifying a cranial prosthesis, then submit with your wig invoice to your insurer. Our team can provide itemized receipts formatted for insurance submission.
When should you get a wig before chemotherapy?
Ideally before treatment begins, so you can match your current hair color and texture precisely, have the wig ready when hair loss begins, and avoid the urgency of finding a match under time pressure. Most oncologists can tell you before treatment starts whether significant hair loss is expected, which gives you time to consult and order.
