The month of October is officially known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we’d like to give back. It is a time to alert yourself and your loved ones to get checked, a time for fighters and survivors to share their stories, and a time to raise money to help find a cure for this disease. Perfect Locks would like to raise awareness by offering our #Pinktober coloring service! 10% of the proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Wear a few strands or dye your whole head pink! Rock the color pink and stand in solidarity with those who have been affected by breast cancer.Book your appointment today!

Our customer service and retail associate Brittni has always wanted to dye her hair pink and try tape-in hair extensions, but she never had the courage. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, she took the plunge and absolutely loved it! Although she has not known anyone who has suffered from breast cancer, she was very close to her grandmother, who unfortunately lost her battle with cancer, so this transformation is dedicated to her as well.
Spreading awareness of breast cancer is also very important to our head stylist, Amanda. She can be seen wearing her BCA pink apron all month long. Hair is a passion of hers, and much like Perfect Locks, she understands how important hair can be to maintaining your confidence and retaining a sense of normalcy during hard times. She loves transforming women to help them look and feel their absolute best!

Aside from our #Pinktober styling service, we’d like to give back by offering a free wig to someone affected by cancer. If you or someone you know is looking for hair loss solutions because of this disease, please fill out this form and tell us your story for a chance to win a free hair makeover. Amanda will cut, color or style it, however, you’d like to help gain your confidence back.

If you or someone you know is suffering from hair loss and are interested in purchasing a Perfect Locks wig, your healthcare provider may cover the expense. All you have to do is purchase the wig online or in our showroom, get a prescription from your doctor for a “Cranial Prosthesis Wig”, and send the prescription as well as the invoice for the wig to your healthcare provider. We also offer kosher wigs that are lined with polyurethane to adhere to the head in lieu of using the combs that come on our standard wigs. These wigs are created with more comfort in mind.

Come to visit our showroom and help us spread awareness of breast cancer by celebrating #Pinktober with us today! #PLGivesBack
Hair Extensions and Cancer Patients: What You Need to Know
October's pink hair moment opens an important conversation about hair, confidence, and cancer. For women going through treatment, hair loss is often one of the most emotionally significant side effects. Extensions and wigs designed for sensitive scalps and delicate hair situations can make a real difference.
"Hair represents so much more than appearance - it's identity, femininity, and normalcy for many women. When we hear from customers who are going through treatment and wearing our hair, it's genuinely one of the most meaningful things we do. Finding the right product for someone in that situation is something we take very seriously."
- Priyanka Swamy, Founder of Perfect Locks
Extension Options for Women Experiencing Hair Thinning or Loss
Not all extension methods are appropriate during cancer treatment or for women experiencing significant hair thinning from other causes. Here's what to know:
Human hair wigs: Full wigs are often the most practical choice during chemotherapy-related hair loss because they provide complete coverage without requiring any natural hair to clip onto. Our human hair wigs are made from ethically sourced Remy Indian hair and can be styled, washed, and worn exactly like natural hair. Many come pre-styled and ready to wear.
Hair toppers: For women experiencing partial thinning rather than complete hair loss, a crown hair topper provides targeted coverage at the most common thinning areas (the crown and part line) while allowing existing hair to remain visible. They clip in gently without requiring high-density natural hair at the base.
Clip-in extensions for volume: For women in the early stages of thinning or post-treatment regrowth phases, clip-in extensions can add volume and density to the natural hair that remains. They're gentle (no heat, no chemicals), removable, and don't require salon appointments.
Scalp Sensitivity Considerations
During and after chemotherapy, the scalp is often sensitized and delicate. A few things to know when choosing hair products during this time:
Choose the most breathable cap construction available for wigs - monofilament caps allow better airflow than fully constructed caps. Avoid any extension adhesives during treatment - clips only. Look for soft, satin or silk-lined cap constructions that minimize scalp irritation. Wash wig hair with very gentle, fragrance-free sulfate-free shampoo.
Frequently Asked Questions
What hair options are available for cancer patients?
Human hair wigs provide complete coverage and the most natural look and feel. Hair toppers offer partial coverage for targeted thinning. Synthetic wigs are more affordable and lower maintenance but can't be heat styled. For women in regrowth phases, clip-in extensions add volume to returning natural hair gently and without commitment. We recommend consulting with your oncology team about timing and scalp sensitivity before choosing any method.
Are human hair wigs better than synthetic for cancer patients?
Human hair wigs are generally more comfortable for extended daily wear and more natural-looking in all lighting conditions. They're breathable, can be styled, and feel like natural hair to the touch. Synthetic wigs are more affordable and require less maintenance. The right choice depends on budget, intended wear time, and personal preference. Many women use synthetic for everyday practicality and reserve a human hair wig for special occasions.
When can you start wearing hair extensions after chemotherapy?
Wait until your oncologist confirms your scalp is healthy enough and hair regrowth is stable. Most doctors recommend waiting until there's at least 2-3 inches of consistent regrowth before using clip-in extensions. Avoid any adhesive-based methods until fully recovered. Wigs and toppers can typically be worn sooner since they don't require attachment to natural hair.
