The type of lace used in a wig can greatly affect its appearance and comfort. The most common types of lace used in wigs are Swiss lace and French lace. Swiss lace is thinner and more delicate, providing a more natural look but also making it more prone to tearing. French lace is thicker and more durable, making it a better option for those new to wearing lace wigs. When shopping for wigs online, you'll also come across HD lace wigs, which use a thinner and more transparent lace for an even more natural look. These wigs are all the rage, but the durability of the lace can be questionable with some brands, so please do your research before making a purchase!
When choosing a lace wig, it is important to consider the type of hair used. The most common types of hair used in lace wigs are human hair and synthetic hair. Human hair wigs offer the most natural look and can be styled and colored just like your own hair. However, they also require more maintenance and can be more expensive. Synthetic hair wigs are more affordable and require less maintenance, but they may not look as natural as human hair wigs.
The style of the wig is also an important factor to consider. Lace wigs come in a variety of styles, including full lace, lace front, and full lace braided wigs. Full lace wigs have a base made entirely of lace, allowing for versatile styling and a natural-looking hairline. Lace front wigs have a lace front and a more traditional wig cap, making them easier to put on and more affordable. Full lace braided wigs have a lace front and a braided wig cap, providing a unique and stylish look.
Lace wigs come in a wide range of colors, from natural shades to bold and vibrant colors. When choosing a color, consider your skin tone and personal style. If you are new to wearing lace wigs, it may be best to stick with a color close to your natural hair color. However, if you are feeling adventurous, try experimenting with different colors to find the perfect match for you.
It is important to consider the maintenance required for your lace wig. Human hair wigs require more maintenance, including regular washing and styling, while synthetic wigs can be washed less frequently and require less styling. Additionally, it is important to properly store your wig when not in use to maintain its quality and longevity.
By considering these key factors, you can choose the perfect lace wig for your needs and preferences. Whether you opt for a gray lace front wig or a full lace braided wig, there is a lace wig out there for everyone. Have you tried a lace wig before? Let us know in the comments below.
]]>One of my favorite quotes comes from an immigrant like myself who found her home in Canada, but was originally from Punjab, India: Rupi Kaur. She wrote, “What’s the greatest lesson a woman should learn? That since day one, she’s already had everything she needs within herself. It’s the world that convinced her she did not.”
This speaks volumes, particularly as when I was a little girl as it is today in some places, it can be difficult being born in a patriarchal region or home. We are shaped by these things, told what our place is and should even be…or even judged by our appearance first above all else. I’ve shared some of the lifelong struggle I’ve had with my own hair, the seeds of which were planted being born with darker skin than other kids at school and very curly hair. No matter how good I was at sports, academics, or painting, my hair became the first thing kids would comment on and tease me about, the one thing I couldn’t change.
My mother, bless her, tried her best by having my hair cut into a boy’s cut to keep it manageable, and resorted to everything from Henna to paste-soaked Fenugreek seeds, eggs and hibiscus leaves. Where perhaps she failed in trying to tame my hair at an age where texture education didn’t really exist, what she did give me was worth it’s weight in gold: the true nature of inner strength. I was born into a household of wise, intelligent women who realized that strength isn’t just about dominance…it’s in leveraging femininity, empathy and understanding AS strength. And moreover, this mindset and skill set doesn’t matter at all what gender you are.
My mother worked hard and somehow had the grace to manage a balanced life between work and home raising us kids and instilling us with values that would lead us in life. She, and my educated aunts made sure we all believed in ourselves, and understood the importance of hard work. My father and the other men in our family never felt threatened or lessened by their strength and wisdom as they recognized that happiness and fulfillment for them meant happiness for all. The culture of India largely embraces this mature viewpoint in most everything, as even the symbol of life is represented by a goddess with the deepest respect paid to the power of mothers and women. Our country is called “Mother India” with this energy of maternal love as the wellspring from which not just life, but compassion, love and empathy flow forth.
As a business owner, wife and mother of two children of my own…I try to find the same healthy balance my mom always seemed to manage. Life is a series of trials isn’t it? Hurdles that come into our path in our personal lives, at home, in business…all of which can make you feel weak, lesser or trapped in a situation. When I’ve felt this way, I look to the past and the beautiful women in my family and life who motivated me in my darkest hours to dig deep, lean in and push through. Believing in yourself is a superpower that once wielded can be your greatest asset and safe harbor in a storm when life starts throwing everything at you.
To me, International Women’s Day is a reminder of the powerful bonds that exist between families we are born into and families that we choose to be a part of. It’s an unspoken pact to serve as warm shoulders, voices of wisdom, and the strength to lift each other up through mentorship and friendship. I love my job, I love what we do, how we do, and the many ways in which every day I see women feeling happier with themselves. Moreover, once you feel that confidence in yourself, are happy with the vision of you looking back in the mirror…when paired with inner strength you become an unstoppable force.
Never give up, stand tall, and most importantly be there for the women in your life when they need you most. We need each other always.
Happy International Women’s Day gorgeous,
Priyanka Swamy

Curly hair extensions are susceptible to several issues that can detract from their natural beauty and vitality. One of the most common complaints is flattened curls, where the extensions lose their springiness and bounce, resulting in a lackluster appearance. This can occur due to factors such as overwashing, excessive heat styling, or improper care techniques. Frizziness is also a frequent concern, especially in humid environments or when the extensions are exposed to harsh styling products.
Frizzy hair extensions can appear unruly and unkempt, diminishing the overall aesthetic. Tangling is another prevalent problem, especially with curly extensions, as the curls have a propensity to intertwine and knot easily, leading to frustration and potential damage during detangling.
Over time, curly hair extensions may experience a loss of volume and bounce, leaving them looking flat and lifeless rather than full-bodied and vibrant.
To effectively address these issues, it is crucial to understand the underlying causes that contribute to the deterioration of curly hair extensions. Flattened curls often result from excessive manipulation, rough handling, or the use of heavy styling products that weigh down the hair shafts and inhibit natural curl formation. Similarly, frizziness can be attributed to a lack of moisture, heat damage, or the presence of environmental factors such as humidity, which disrupt the hair's natural texture and structure.
Tangling occurs when the hair cuticles become rough or when the extensions are not properly detangled and cared for, leading to knots and snarls that are difficult to remove without causing damage. Loss of bounce and volume may be exacerbated by improper storage, prolonged exposure to heat styling tools, or a buildup of product residue that weighs down the hair and diminishes its natural beauty.
In addition to addressing immediate concerns, establishing a regular maintenance routine is essential for preserving the vitality and longevity of your curly hair extensions.
Proper care and storage are paramount for prolonging the life of your curly hair extensions and ensuring they remain in optimal condition.
Maintaining the volume and bounce of curly hair extensions requires patience, dedication, and the right techniques. By following the tips outlined in this comprehensive guide, you can effectively revive and maintain your curly hair extensions, ensuring they look vibrant and beautiful for a longer time.
With proper care and maintenance, you can enjoy stunning curls that turn heads and boost your confidence every day. Remember to be gentle with your extensions, avoid excessive heat styling, and invest in high-quality products designed specifically for curly hair to achieve the best results.

]]>Below is a variety of cute Valentine's Day hairstyles that will help you turn heads and steal hearts on this special day.
Nothing says romance quite like a classic updo. Elegant and timeless, updos are perfect for creating a sophisticated look that exudes romance. To achieve a romantic updo hairstyle, start by gathering your hair into a high ponytail and securing it with a hair tie.
Then, twist and wrap the ponytail around its base to form a bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins, and gently loosen some strands around your face for a softer look. Finish off with a spritz of hairspray to keep your updo in place all night long.
For a more intricate updo, consider incorporating braids or twists into your hairstyle. You can create a braided crown by braiding two sections of hair on either side of your head and securing them at the back with bobby pins. This elegant style will make you feel like royalty and is perfect for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner.
Braided hairstyles are not only beautiful but also versatile, making them ideal for Valentine's Day. Sweetheart braids, in particular, are perfect for adding a touch of romance to your look. To create sweetheart braids, start by parting your hair down the middle and dividing it into two sections.
Then, braid each section of hair, securing the ends with clear elastics. Next, gently pull on the edges of the braids to loosen them and create a softer, more romantic look. Finally, cross the braids over each other at the back of your head and secure them with bobby pins to form a heart shape.
Soft curls and waves are another excellent choice for Valentine's Day hairstyles. These romantic, feminine styles are flattering on all hair lengths and textures and are easy to achieve with the right tools and techniques.
To create soft curls or waves, start by applying a heat-protectant spray to your hair to prevent damage. Then, use a curling iron or wand to curl small sections of hair away from your face. Once you've curled all of your hair, gently tousle it with your fingers to loosen the curls and create a more natural look. Finish off with a light-hold hairspray to keep your curls or waves in place throughout the day or evening.
Half-up half-down hairstyles are perfect for those who want a romantic look with a playful twist. These versatile styles allow you to show off your hair while keeping it out of your face, making them ideal for both casual and formal occasions.
To create a half-up, half-down hairstyle, simply gather the top section of your hair and secure it with a hair tie or clip at the back of your head. You can leave the bottom section of your hair loose or add curls or waves for added texture and volume.
For a fun and festive Valentine's Day hairstyle, why not try a heart-shaped look? Heart-shaped hairstyles are whimsical and charming, making them perfect for this romantic holiday. To create a heart-shaped hairstyle, start by parting your hair down the middle and dividing it into two sections.
Then, gather each section into a high ponytail and secure it with a hair tie. Next, twist and wrap each ponytail around its base to form a bun, shaping it into a heart shape. Secure the buns with bobby pins and gently pull on the edges to create a more defined heart shape. Finish off with a light-hold hairspray to keep your heart-shaped hairstyle in place all day or night.
For a modern and sophisticated look, try a sleek ponytail with a twist. Start by smoothing your hair back into a high ponytail and securing it with a hair tie. Then, take a small section of hair from the underside of the ponytail and wrap it around the hair tie to conceal it. Secure the wrapped section with bobby pins, and finish off with a shine-enhancing serum to add a glossy finish to your sleek ponytail.
For a relaxed and effortless vibe, opt for a messy bun with a headband. Start by pulling your hair back into a loose bun at the nape of your neck and securing it with an elastic. Then, gently pull on the edges of the bun to create a messy, undone look. Finally, add a decorative headband or hair scarf to add a pop of color and personality to your hairstyle.
Channel your inner retro glam with vintage-inspired victory rolls. This classic hairstyle is perfect for adding a touch of old Hollywood glamour to your Valentine's Day look. To create victory rolls, start by sectioning off the front portion of your hair on both sides of your part. Then, use a comb and some hair gel to smooth and shape each section into a roll, securing them with bobby pins. Finish off with a spritz of hairspray to hold your victory rolls in place all night long.
For a romantic and effortless look, try a textured low bun. Start by loosely gathering your hair at the nape of your neck and twisting it into a low bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins, leaving a few strands loose around your face for a soft, romantic vibe. Then, use your fingers to gently pull on the edges of the bun to create texture and volume.
Finish off with a mist of texturizing spray to enhance the tousled look of your textured low bun.
Create a whimsical and romantic hairstyle with a fishtail braid crown. Start by parting your hair down the middle and dividing it into two sections. Then, create a fishtail braid with each section of hair, securing the ends with clear elastics. Next, wrap each fishtail braid around the top of your head, securing them with bobby pins to create a crown-like effect. Gently pull on the edges of the braids to loosen them and create a softer, more romantic look.
For a glamorous and effortlessly chic look, try side-swept waves. Start by creating a deep side-part in your hair and curling small sections away from your face with a curling wand or iron. Once you've curled all of your hair, use your fingers to gently tousle the curls and sweep them to one side of your head. Secure the waves with bobby pins if needed, and finish off with a spritz of hairspray to keep them in place.
Add a touch of whimsy and romance to your Valentine's Day look with a floral crown. Start by creating loose waves or curls in your hair, then select a variety of fresh or faux flowers and greenery. Use floral wire and floral tape to create a crown-like shape with the flowers and greenery, then secure it to your head with bobby pins. The result is a dreamy and ethereal hairstyle that is perfect for celebrating love on Valentine's Day.
With so many cute and romantic hairstyles to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect look to complement your Valentine's Day ensemble. No matter which hairstyle you choose, don't forget to have fun experimenting and expressing yourself through your hair.

]]>Below are the factors that influence the reusability of tape-ins, recommendations for maximum reuse, and ways to extend the life of tape-in hair extensions.
Tape-in hair extensions are a type of semi-permanent hair extension method that involves attaching thin wefts of hair to the natural hair using a special adhesive tape. These extensions are designed to add length, volume, and sometimes color to the natural hair without the need for heat, beads, or braids commonly associated with other extension methods.
These extensions consist of wefts or small sections of hair that are pre-taped with a special adhesive at the top. The adhesive tape is typically a medical-grade, double-sided tape specifically designed for hair extensions. It is durable and safe for use on hair.
A stylist applies the extensions by sandwiching a thin section of natural hair between two wefts, effectively "taping" them together. This process creates a secure and flat bond that lays close to the scalp, providing a natural look.
One of the advantages of tape-in extensions is their seamless blend with natural hair. The extensions move naturally and are virtually undetectable when properly applied. These extensions are considered semi-permanent because they can be worn for an extended period, typically six to eight weeks, before needing to be repositioned or replaced.
Tape-in extensions can be customized to achieve different looks, whether it's adding length, volume, highlights, or a combination of these. Compared to some other types of extensions, tape-ins are relatively low maintenance. They can be washed, styled, and treated much like natural hair.
The longevity of tape-in hair extensions largely depends on the quality of the tape used. High-quality tapes are designed to withstand multiple uses, providing a reliable and durable bond.
On the contrary, low-quality tapes may lose their adhesive properties quickly, leading to premature detachment and the need for more frequent replacements.
Also, the proper installation and removal of tape in extensions play a significant role in determining how many times the tape can be reused. Professional application by a skilled stylist ensures that the tape adheres securely to the natural hair, minimizing the risk of premature slippage.
Similarly, employing the correct removal technique is crucial to avoid damaging both the extensions and the natural hair. Using the right adhesive remover will play a critical role in making the task as easy as possible.
Manufacturers often provide guidelines on the recommended number of times their tapes can be reused. Generally, you can re-use tape-in extensions three times. It’s essential to adhere to manufacturer’s guidelines to maintain the integrity of your extensions.
Regular visual inspection of the tape is another key aspect of determining its reuse potential. Signs of wear and tear, such as fraying edges or a weakened adhesive bond, indicate that the tape may no longer be suitable for reuse.
Replacement tape keeps the extensions looking fresh, feeling secure, and blending beautifully. It's a small step that makes a huge difference in maintaining the quality and beauty of tape-in hair extensions!
To maximize the lifespan of tape-in hair extensions, proper maintenance is crucial. Following a few simple tips can significantly extend the life of the tape:
While maximizing the use of your extensions is economical, there are risks associated with overusing them. Overused tape may not provide a secure bond, leading to the potential for hair extension slippage. This can result in discomfort and damage to both the extensions and natural hair.
If the tape used to hold your extensions lost its adhesive strength, it can pull on natural hair during removal, causing breakage and damage. Regularly assessing the condition of the tape helps prevent such risks.
Understanding how many times you can reuse your tape-in hair extensions is crucial for maintaining their effectiveness and ensuring the health of natural hair. Factors such as tape quality, proper installation and removal, and regular maintenance play pivotal roles in determining the maximum reuse potential.
Follow manufacturer recommendations and your hair stylists’ advise to minimize the risks associated with overuse. Your tape in extensions may last longer but keep in mind that responsible care and attention to detail are key to preserving their beauty and longevity.
]]>Below is a comprehensive guide for hand-tied extension users.

Hand-tied hair extensions are a type of hair extension method that involves attaching wefts of hair to the natural hair using a hand-tying technique. Unlike traditional extensions that use tapes, clips, or other methods, hand-tied extensions are secured to small sections of the natural hair using a unique and meticulous hand-tying process.
Here's a simple breakdown of hand-tied hair extensions:
Here’s what to do to make sure your extensions look stunning for as long as possible:
When it comes to washing hand-tied extensions, the key is to be as gentle as you can. Start by using a sulfate-free shampoo. These shampoos are milder and won't strip the extensions of their natural oils. Gently lather the shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Avoid aggressive rubbing or tangling, as this can lead to unnecessary stress on the extensions.
Proper conditioning is essential for keeping hand-tied extensions soft and manageable. Opt for a lightweight conditioner specifically designed for extensions. Apply the conditioner from mid-length to the ends, avoiding the roots where the extensions are attached. Rinse thoroughly to ensure no product residue is left behind.
After washing, pat the extensions dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing or pulling, as wet hair is more susceptible to damage. If possible, let the extensions air dry to minimize exposure to heat. If you need to use a blow dryer, set it to a low heat setting to prevent damage to the hair fibers and bonds.
Invest in a wide-tooth comb or a brush designed for extensions. Start brushing from the ends, working your way up gradually. Hold the roots while brushing to minimize tension on the bonds. Regular and gentle brushing helps prevent tangling and keeps the extensions looking smooth and natural.
When styling hand-tied extensions, use heat styling tools with proper precautions. Opt for a low setting on your flat iron or curling wand to minimize heat damage. Before styling, apply a heat protectant to create a barrier between the hair and the styling tool. You should also avoid hairstyles that pull or stress the extensions, as this can lead to damage over time.
Nighttime care is crucial for maintaining the integrity of hand-tied extensions. Tie your hair in a loose braid or ponytail before going to bed to prevent tangling. Using a silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction, minimizing the chances of waking up to a tousled mess in the morning.
It's essential to schedule regular maintenance appointments with a professional stylist to keep your hand-tied extensions in optimal condition. These appointments serve as a proactive measure to ensure that your extensions stay in top shape over time. During these sessions, your stylist will meticulously inspect the extensions, checking for any signs of loose bonds or potential damage.
This careful examination allows for early detection and prompt resolution of issues so they don’t lead to more serious problems in the future.
The aftercare advice provided by your stylist is invaluable for maintaining the longevity of your extensions. They may offer personalized tips on washing, conditioning, and styling that are tailored to your specific hair type and extension application.
Choose hair products specifically formulated for use with extensions. Harsh chemicals in some products can damage the extensions and compromise their quality. Minimize exposure to chlorine, saltwater, and other harsh chemicals that can strip the hair of its natural oils and lead to dryness.
Make sure to exercise caution and be conscious of your daily activities to safeguard your hand-tied extensions from potential damage. When engaging in physical activities, take proactive measures to protect your extensions by securing your hair in a protective style. Opting for a hairband or tying your hair in a bun are effective strategies to not only keep your extensions in place but also to minimize stress on the bonds.
If you encounter issues like tangling or matting, address them promptly. Use a detangling spray or serum and gently work through the tangles with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. If problems persist, seek professional advice from your stylist to prevent further damage.
Taking good care of hand-tied extensions means being gentle and doing it regularly. Whether you're washing, conditioning, styling, or doing maintenance, each step is super important in keeping your extensions looking beautiful and lasting a long time. If you follow these easy guidelines, you can enjoy having gorgeous, natural-looking hair that stays great. Just remember, a little care can make a big difference in keeping your hand-tied extensions looking fantastic.
]]>When it comes to hair styling, protective hairstyles are a must for individuals with short hair. These styles not only offer a chic and versatile appearance but also serve the purpose of safeguarding the health and integrity of short strands. Protective hairstyles are not just a trend but a means to shield hair from damage due to daily styling, environmental factors, and manipulation.
When it comes to short hair, the need for protection is just as vital as it is for longer locks. Short hair, while often considered low-maintenance, can benefit greatly from the right protective styles. Below are the top secrets to maintaining healthy and stylish short hair using protective hairstyles.
Braids have long been admired for their aesthetic appeal and protective properties. For short hair, braids can be a game-changer. They provide a shield against breakage and external elements while adding a touch of elegance. Popular braid styles for short hair include the classic French braid, box braids, and cornrows. The close-knit structure of braids minimizes friction, promoting hair health and growth. Learn the easy steps how to braid in hair extensions using human hair.
Twists are another excellent choice for protecting short hair. Defined by their coiling pattern, twists offer a stylish and low-maintenance alternative. They're gentle on short strands, preventing tangles and reducing the risk of split ends. Twists can be worn loose for a carefree look or styled into intricate patterns for a more polished appearance.
Updos and buns aren't just reserved for long hair; they can work wonders for short hair, too. These styles involve gathering the hair into an elevated or coiled position, reducing exposure to external stressors. Updos and buns not only protect short hair but also provide a polished and sophisticated look. Simple variations like the top knot or braided bun can be effortlessly achieved with short hair.
While not traditional hairstyles, wigs and extensions offer a protective solution for short hair. They provide a break from constant styling and manipulation, allowing natural hair to rest and recover. Wigs and extensions are available in various styles and lengths, offering versatility and a chance to experiment with different looks without compromising short hair health.
Afro puffs are a playful and protective option for short hair. This style involves gathering sections of hair into rounded puffs, creating a voluminous and eye-catching look. It's a versatile choice that can be adapted for both casual and formal occasions. Afro puffs are gentle on short hair, allowing for a break from constant styling while showcasing the natural texture.
Finger coils are a beautiful protective style that enhances the natural curl pattern of short hair. This technique involves wrapping small sections of hair around your fingers to create defined coils. Finger coils not only protect short hair from manipulation but also celebrate the unique texture of curls. This low-maintenance style can last for an extended period, reducing the need for frequent styling.
While not a traditional hairstyle, head wraps and scarves are excellent protective accessories for short hair. They shield the hair from environmental factors, prevent moisture loss, and add a touch of elegance to your overall look. Head wraps come in various colors and patterns, providing endless styling possibilities to suit your mood and outfit.
Faux locs offer a stylish and protective alternative for short hair enthusiasts. This method involves wrapping synthetic or human hair extensions around your natural hair to create the appearance of dreadlocks. Faux locs provide a break from daily styling, allowing short hair to flourish while still enjoying the aesthetic appeal of longer, textured locks.
Maintaining the health of short hair within protective styles requires a wise approach. Here are some essential tips to keep short hair in top condition:
Short hair tends to lose moisture more quickly than longer strands. Regularly moisturizing your short hair within protective styles is crucial. Use leave-in conditioners or oils to keep the hair hydrated, preventing dryness and breakage.
Protective styles can lose their integrity overnight if not properly cared for. Invest in a satin or silk scarf or pillowcase to minimize friction and preserve the style while you sleep. Additionally, consider ‘pineappleing’ — gathering the hair into a loose, high ponytail — to maintain the style's structure.
Choose hair care products that complement your protective style. Opt for sulfate-free shampoos, lightweight conditioners, and styling products suitable for the specific protective hairstyle you've chosen. These products will help maintain the style while nourishing your short hair.
Dos
Don'ts
Protective hairstyles for short hair or even short hair with bangs offer a winning combination of style and practicality. Whether you opt for braids, twists, updos, buns, or the versatility of wigs and extensions, the key is to prioritize the health of your short hair.
With proper maintenance, care, and adherence to dos and don'ts, you can confidently embrace the beauty and resilience of short hair through protective hairstyles. So, go ahead, experiment with styles, and let your short hair shine!
]]>In this guide, we'll look at the different types of hair extensions, talk about how long your hair should be for specific extension methods, mistakes to avoid, and helpful tips for growing your hair to the length you want.
Generally, in order to achieve a long hair look, your hair needs to be at least 4 inches. But, the length of hair extensions you need is also influenced by other factors, each playing a crucial role in achieving a seamless and natural look.
Let’s discuss these factors one by one.
Understanding hair textures is one of the key factors in choosing the type of hair extensions to buy and it also effects the length of extensions needed. Straight hair offers a relatively smooth canvas, making it a good starting point for extensions.
In contrast, wavy hair introduces challenges that demand a meticulous approach for seamless application. Individuals blessed with curly hair face the challenge of ensuring that their extensions blend naturally with their unique curl patterns.
Those who are looking for a modest increase in length might adopt a different approach than individuals searching for a more dramatic transformation. The distinction between desiring increased length and enhanced volume plays a pivotal role in determining the most suitable type of hair extension and how long the extensions need to be in ordeer to achieve the desired effect.
Where extensions are strategically placed on the head is a critical aspect of achieving a natural look. Whether focused on the crown area for targeted enhancement or distributed across the full head for an all-encompassing voluminous effect, the placement of extensions significantly influences the overall aesthetic and impact of the chosen hairstyle.
Before getting your own extensions, you need to meet certain criteria. Following are the recommended minimum hair lengths, depending on the type of hair extensions.
Clip-in extensions are known for being easy to use and can work well with various hair lengths. When using these extensions, ideally, your natural hair should be around 3 to 4 inches long. This length allows for secure attachment and seamless blending of the clip-in extensions.
Tape-in extensions are popular for their adhesive application and are typically recommended for those with medium to long hair. Generally, a minimum hair length of 4 to 6 inches is recommended for tape-ins. This provides a stable foundation for the adhesive strips, ensuring a secure and natural integration.
Sew-in or weave extensions offer a durable solution and work best when attached to longer natural hair. For these extensions, your natural hair should be at least 5 to 7 inches long. This length offers the necessary support for the weaving process, resulting in a durable and aesthetically pleasing outcome.
Fusion or bonded extensions usually come with minimum length requirements. These extensions typically require a minimum hair length of 4 to 6 inches. This moderate length facilitates the bonding process for a secure and long-lasting application.
Common mistakes and misconceptions surrounding hair extensions often revolve around assumptions that these transformative tools are exclusively designed for individuals with long hair.
Assuming all extensions require long hair is a prevalent misconception. The reality is that there are various extension methods suitable for different hair lengths. The key is to dispel the myth and embrace the multitude of options available.
Not seeking professional consultation is a serious mistake when considering hair extensions. Seeking advice from experts is essential, as they can offer personalized recommendations based on your unique hair characteristics and desired style. This proactive step ensures a seamless and personalized approach to applying and maintaining extensions.
Maintenance is a commonly overlooked aspect of using hair extensions. Neglecting care routines can affect the longevity and health of both natural hair and extensions. Regular maintenance, including washing, conditioning, and avoiding damaging practices, are vital for preserving the overall look's integrity.
Effective tips for growing hair in preparation for extensions involve cultivating healthy hair practices.
Sustaining healthy hair is crucial for a successful hair extension experience. Regular trims, though counterintuitive for those seeking longer hair, prevent split ends and contribute to overall hair health. Incorporating proper conditioning practices ensures that both natural hair and extensions remain in optimal condition, maintaining a vibrant appearance. Avoiding heat damage further safeguards the integrity of the hair during the growth phase.
Nourishing your body with nutrient-rich foods fuels hair growth from the inside out. A diet abundant in vitamins and minerals, especially those essential for hair health, provides the necessary building blocks for robust growth. Adequate hydration complements this as it maintains the moisture balance in both the hair and scalp.
Perhaps the most crucial tip for those on the path to longer hair with extensions is having patience and setting realistic expectations. Hair growth is a gradual process, and expecting immediate results can lead to frustration. Embracing the journey, coupled with consistent care practices, sets the stage for a successful and satisfying experience.
Understanding these specific length requirements is essential for individuals considering hair extensions. It ensures that your chosen method is suitable for your current hair length, and it increases the chance of more satisfying and visually appealing end result.
So, whether you want a bit more length or extra volume, picking the right extension type base on your hair length is the key to getting that perfect and natural look. Remember, it's not just about looks – it's about feeling good and taking care of your hair in the best way possible too.
]]>Traditions, just like life changes often happen through timing and often happy accidents. What makes a challenge into a tradition comes down to determination but also embracing change when it happens. Case in point: when the New York Times announced a fireworks ban in 1907, people were as outraged as the Times staff themselves. For years people would flock to Times Square (so named after the New York Times’ new skyscraper) to celebrate the turn of the year with a dramatic fireworks show. Not to be outdone, the owner of the newspaper Adolph Ochs commissioned a metalworker and Ukrainian immigrant called Jacob Star to create a lighted 7 ton ball of iron and wood from the flagpole at the top of the building. The work was completed, the ball descended, and 1908 began with a new tradition still going strong well over a century later.
Then, as now, in that moment we count down and say goodbye to the fears and failings of the last year and embrace the resolutions and promises of the new.
Resolutions are hard, and that’s often why we fail at them. Last year for me I made a promise to myself not just to take time to myself mentally, but also physically. When I was younger, I grew up in a very cosmopolitan city called Bangalore that had access and facilities for everything from skating to swimming and even track and field and I made use of all of them! I had always been gifted athletically, proudly bringing home medals from elementary through high to show my smiling mother. Later I placed in nationals in India as a level long jumper and beyond the thrill and challenge of pushing myself physically, I found a deep, comfortable happiness while enjoying the outdoors. My parents supported and encouraged me always, but back then there weren’t a lot of opportunities to pursue sports for women. By high school, that love and thrill of the wind in my air as I always tried to be my personal best was replaced with grades and career choices.
Over the past several years post-COVID, I found myself not just making a commitment to fitness goals, but also to reconnect with the childish joy I found in the outdoors and athletics. Over the years I would take time to go for hikes or go to the gym, but it wasn’t a solid routine…it wasn’t a priority and moreover, as we age we often doubt what’s possible. We all make promises to our “best selves” in the New Year, but we often fail because we do too much, too soon and burn out in the process. Start small like I did, enjoy that hike or that walk but make it a routine. We started ours with Sunday mornings, going for walks, bike rides, or pickleball with friends and/or family so it’s not just fitness, it's time for us to share, to bond, to laugh and just enjoy each other’s company.
Months into this new routine as April drew closer, friends began excitedly talking about doing a Century Bike Ride, an 8 hour intense ride that is as physically challenging as it is daunting. I’d done up to 4 hour rides before, but never anything like this. When being pressured, I’d laugh it off, after all how could I do that at 48?! Nonetheless, eventually my friends won and my husband Guy and I woke up at the crack of dawn and headed out to meet this challenge. Once we started pedaling, my anxiety and fear melted away and to my surprise I wasn’t just doing it, I was enjoying it. I felt that same effortless joy, of finding not just your wind, but the confidence of being in tune with your body, mind and soul. 8 hours later, we finished…tired but elated and it was the most satisfying soul-fulfilling day I experienced last year.
We all make excuses and there are many, but at the end of the day the only thing in the way of our promise to ourselves at the stroke of midnight as the calendar turns is us. It’s not just “mind over body”, it’s “mind and soul in tune with body”. For me, spirituality is about being open to not just new experiences, but reconnecting with old ones…silencing our inner doubting voice, while flushing away negativity and fears and pains. It’s a balance I wanted to bring not just to my personal life, but my business life, and help other women find themselves again as I did not too long ago.
Let 2024 be the year you don’t unintentionally lie to yourself. Let this year be the year you reconnect with the purest part of you, still out there that wants to run, to laugh and to walk with you in this life.
Wishing you a year of fulfillment, personal growth and the happiest of New Year’s,
Priyanka Swamy

It’s our time of year to kick back, dress up, mingle and show no small amount of appreciation for our staff, friends and community. Especially in America, with the pace of our work lives so rarely do we give ourselves license to unwind and let loose and really share love and receive love from all the people in our lives. The final burst of joy at the end of a roller coaster year of goals passed, challenges faced or life events before we end on a positive note at the birth of a new year.
This Christmas is particularly special for us as my parents are visiting from India and bringing with them some time honored traditions of their own, including the much maligned and often laughed about fruit cake. Now before you roll your eyes, true fruit cake isn’t a dry brick…done well it is a deliciously moist, dense cake exploding with fruity flavor. It might surprise to know that fruit cakes or plum cakes have been popular in India for centuries. Ranging from “tutti fruitti” cake to Kerala plum cake, each region and even family have their own twist on this classic holiday desert cake. My mom has her own recipe, passed town, adjusted and changed over the years, always being perfected. Together we baked a bakery-full of them to gift to friends and family this year, and our time in the kitchen together, laughing and telling stories as we work the dough and add the soaked fruits is something I treasure. With her blessing, I wanted to share her recipe with you below!
From our family to you and yours, we hope you have a peaceful and joyous Christmas and the Happiest of Holidays.

]]>Dandruff is a common scalp problem that is caused by dead skin cells flaking off the scalp. Many people are experiencing dandruff, but it is more common from the teenage years up to midlife. While dandruff is a harmless condition, you need to follow good practices to effectively manage it.
Below are seven effective home remedies designed to naturally combat dandruff.
Coconut oil, renowned for its moisturizing and antimicrobial properties, is a versatile remedy for dandruff. Start by warming up some coconut oil and gently massaging it onto your scalp. To allow for better absorption, leave it on for at least 30 minutes or even overnight. Afterward, wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
Regular use of coconut oil can help hydrate your scalp and significantly reduce the presence of dandruff.
The acidity of apple cider vinegar can effectively restore the pH balance of your scalp, creating an environment less conducive to the growth of dandruff-causing yeast. To integrate this remedy into your routine, mix equal parts water and apple cider vinegar. Use it as a final rinse after shampooing, leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing with water.
Incorporate this rinse once or twice a week for optimal results.
Tea tree oil stands out for its potent antifungal properties, making it a formidable opponent against the yeast responsible for dandruff. An easy way to incorporate tea tree oil into your routine is by mixing a few drops with your regular shampoo. When washing your hair, make a conscious effort to massage the mixture into your scalp, letting it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. For optimal results, repeat this process 2-3 times a week.
Baking soda, with its exfoliating properties, proves effective in removing dead skin cells from the scalp, thereby reducing dandruff. Begin by wetting your hair and gently rubbing a handful of baking soda onto your scalp. Rinse thoroughly with water and avoid using shampoo immediately afterward. Use this remedy once a week and adjust the frequency based on the observed results.
Aloe vera, known for its soothing properties, can alleviate the itching and irritation associated with dandruff. For this remedy, apply fresh aloe vera gel directly onto your scalp and leave it on for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse with a mild shampoo and water. Regular use of aloe vera can provide sustained relief from dandruff and contribute to a healthier scalp.
Lemon juice, with its natural acidity, aids in balancing the pH of the scalp and reducing excess oil – effectively preventing dandruff. To incorporate lemon juice into your routine, mix fresh lemon juice with water and apply it to your scalp. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes before washing your hair. While this remedy can be used 1-2 times a week, individuals with sensitive scalps should exercise caution.
Neem oil, boasting natural antifungal and antibacterial properties, serves as an effective weapon against dandruff. Combine a few drops of neem oil with a carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil. Massage the mixture onto your scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes before washing. To integrate this remedy into your routine, use it once or twice a week.
Wearing hair extensions can be a fantastic way to add length and volume to your hair, but it's essential to care for both your natural hair and the extensions to prevent issues like dandruff. Here are some simple tips to avoid getting dandruff when wearing hair extensions:
Regularly washing your natural hair and scalp is crucial to keeping them clean and free from excess oil and product buildup. Use a mild, sulfate-free shampoo, and focus on massaging your scalp gently to ensure proper cleansing.
Moisturizing your scalp is essential to prevent dryness, which can contribute to dandruff. Use a lightweight, hydrating oil or serum that won't weigh down your hair or cause the extensions to slip.
Limit the use of heavy styling products, as they can contribute to product buildup and make your scalp prone to dandruff. If you use styling products, choose lightweight options and apply them sparingly.
Ensure that your hair extensions are not too tight, as tension on the scalp can lead to irritation and dandruff. If you feel discomfort, consider adjusting the tightness of the extensions or consulting with a professional stylist.
Use a soft-bristle brush or a brush specifically designed for extensions to avoid causing friction on the scalp. Gently detangle your hair, starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots.
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent tangling. Consider braiding or tying your hair in a loose ponytail before bedtime to minimize stress on the extensions and your natural hair.
Excessive heat styling can contribute to dryness and irritation on the scalp. Minimize the use of hot styling tools, and when you do use them, apply a heat protectant to shield your natural hair and extensions.
Pay attention to any signs of irritation, redness, or itching on your scalp. If you notice any discomfort, consult with your stylist to address the issue promptly.
When combatting dandruff using these natural home remedies, patience and consistency are key. Results may vary from person to person, and it might take some time before you notice a significant improvement in your scalp health.
These simple and natural dandruff home remedies offer an affordable and accessible way to fight dandruff. With a bit of patience, consistency, and the right approach, you can achieve a healthier, flake-free scalp and say goodbye to the inconvenience of dandruff.
If you have a pre-existing scalp condition or severe dandruff, it is advisable to consult with a dermatologist for personalized advice tailored to your specific needs.
]]>Quality hair care is of great importance when it comes to maintaining the health and vitality of your hair. Healthy hair is not just about aesthetics – it is a reflection of your overall well-being. Beyond the physical aspects, the condition of your hair can significantly influence your self-esteem and confidence.
Healthy, well-maintained hair can serve as a powerful confidence booster. When your hair looks its best, you're more likely to feel good about yourself, which can positively impact your overall self-image.
For those with oily hair, a clarifying shampoo can help remove excess oil and maintain a clean scalp. Conversely, if you have dry hair, a moisturizing conditioner can infuse your hair with the hydration it craves. The key here is to understand your hair's characteristics and select products tailored to address them effectively.
Regular cleansing is essential to ensure that your hair remains clean and free from the accumulation of dirt and excess oils. This practice is not only beneficial for maintaining hair health but also contributes to a fresh and clean appearance.
However, it's important to strike a balance and avoid overwashing, as excessive cleansing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and susceptible to damage. The frequency of hair washing depends on individual factors such as hair type, lifestyle, and personal preference. Daily washing may be necessary for those with very oily hair, but it can lead to overproduction of oil.
Washing every other day is a common routine for normal to slightly oily hair, while 2-3 times a week works well for most hair types. Those with very dry or curly hair may only need to wash once a week to prevent excessive drying. Some individuals can wash their hair as needed, based on its condition, activities, and product use.
Styling tools like straighteners, curling irons, and hair dryers have become a part of our daily routines. While these tools can help us achieve the desired look, their frequent use can take a toll on our hair.
To safeguard your hair from heat damage, it's crucial to limit the use of these styling tools. Consider using them sparingly and always apply a heat-protectant product before styling. This protective barrier helps reduce the impact of heat on your hair, mitigating the potential for damage.
Regular hair trims are more than just a grooming ritual; they are essential for the health and appearance of your hair. Trimming your hair at regular intervals, typically every 6 to 8 weeks, can work wonders in preventing split ends and promoting healthy hair growth.
Split ends are a common hair woe, and they can be a source of frustration for many. However, with regular trims, you can effectively manage and prevent split ends. Trimming also helps maintain the shape and style of your hair, ensuring that it looks its best at all times.
The type of brush you use can make a significant difference in the health of your hair. Different brushes are suited to different hair types and serve specific functions.
For those with curly hair, a wide-tooth comb is an excellent choice, as it helps prevent tangling and breakage. On the other hand, if you have straight hair, a paddle brush works well for detangling and smoothing. The key to effective brushing is to be gentle and patient.
Avoid aggressive brushing, as it can lead to breakage and damage to your hair. Start at the ends of your hair and work your way up to the roots, gently detangling knots and ensuring that your hair remains intact. This approach is particularly important for those with long or easily tangled hair.
The health of your hair is intrinsically connected to your overall nutrition. Your dietary choices significantly impact the strength and appearance of your hair. To ensure that your hair gets the nourishment it needs, it's essential to consume a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients.
Protein is a cornerstone of hair health, as it forms the building blocks of your hair's structure. Including protein-rich foods in your diet, such as lean meats, fish, eggs, and legumes, can help your hair grow strong and resilient.
Vitamins and minerals are also crucial for healthy hair. Vitamin A promotes the production of sebum, the natural oil that conditions the scalp and keeps hair healthy. B vitamins, particularly Biotin (Vitamin B7), are known to promote hair growth. Minerals like iron and zinc play vital roles in hair health and should be a part of your dietary intake.
Hydration is a simple yet often overlooked aspect of hair care. Drinking enough water is essential to keep your hair and scalp adequately hydrated. Dehydration can lead to dry, brittle hair that is more susceptible to damage.
Even with diligent hair care, it's not uncommon to face various hair problems. These issues can range from hair loss to dandruff and dryness. To address these concerns, it's essential to have effective solutions at your disposal.
Hair loss is a concern that many people face at some point in their lives. Whether due to genetics, stress, or other factors, hair loss can be distressing. Fortunately, there are treatments available to combat this issue. Minoxidil is a well-known over-the-counter product that can help promote hair growth and prevent further loss. There are also less invasive and safer options such as keratin hair building fibers which are known to work well for concealing hair loss. In more severe cases, consulting with a dermatologist for personalized advice and treatment options is a wise choice.
Dandruff is a common scalp condition characterized by flaking and itching. It can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Anti-dandruff shampoos are readily available and often contain active ingredients like zinc pyrithione or ketoconazole, which effectively control dandruff. Regular use of these specialized shampoos can keep dandruff in check and maintain a healthy scalp.
Seeking the expertise of a skilled stylist or a salon professional can provide you with specialized treatments and services that can take your hair care to the next level.
Salon hair treatments offer a range of options, from deep conditioning to keratin treatments and hair spa therapies. These services are designed to address specific hair concerns and are often customized to your individual needs. The advantage of salon treatments is the expertise of professionals who understand the nuances of hair and can provide tailored solutions.
Haircuts from a skilled stylist go beyond mere grooming. A haircut can transform your appearance, enhancing your natural features and complementing your personal style. Professional hairstylists consider factors such as your face shape, hair texture, and lifestyle when creating a haircut that suits you perfectly. Regular visits to a trusted stylist can ensure that your hair always looks its best.
Homemade hair masks are a fantastic way to provide your hair with nourishment and rejuvenation. You can create these masks at home using simple, natural ingredients like avocado, honey, and coconut oil. These ingredients are known for their moisturizing and conditioning properties. By making and applying these masks regularly, you can infuse your hair with the care it needs.
Regular scalp massages using natural oils, such as coconut oil or olive oil, can improve blood circulation to the scalp. This increased blood flow helps nourish hair follicles and promote healthy hair growth. In addition, scalp massages also offer stress relief, contributing to a sense of relaxation and tranquility.
If your a hear extensions wearer, and so many of us are, it's important to care for them when not in use – they deserve it! Storing your extensions properly when not in use ensures they stay tangle-free, maintain their luscious texture, and are ready to slay whenever you decide to rock them again. It's like a little spa day for your locks! Think of it as an investment in your beauty routine. Grab a silk or satin bag, gently detangle, and store them in a cool, dry place. Your hair will thank you for the extra love, and you'll always be ready for that spontaneous, fabulous hair moment.
An essential aspect of quality hair care is being attuned to the specific needs of your hair. Your hair can change over time, depending on various factors such as the season, your health, and lifestyle changes. By paying attention to your hair's unique requirements, you can adjust your care routine to meet its evolving demands.
During the winter, for example, the air tends to be drier, which can lead to increased static and dryness in your hair. In response, you may need to increase your use of moisturizing products and adjust your routine to account for these environmental changes.
Stress, illness, and lifestyle factors can also impact your hair's health. In times of stress or illness, you may notice that your hair appears dull or experiences increased shedding. Recognizing these signs allows you to adapt your care routine accordingly, perhaps by incorporating more nourishing treatments or consulting with a healthcare professional if needed.
It's important to remember that your hair is unique and may require tailored care to address its specific needs. By understanding and adapting quality hair care practices, you not only enhance the appearance of your hair but also invest in your overall well-being. Healthy, well-maintained hair is a reflection of your self-confidence and natural beauty, and it deserves the attention and care that you provide.
So, treat your hair with the care and respect it deserves, and it will reward you with strength, vitality, and lasting beauty.
]]>The holiday season kicks off again once more and as usual Thanksgiving Day here in America arrives with festing and family, a precursor to the “second helping” once December rolls around. It’s also a time of year I think fondly of a very different kind of holiday we celebrated when I was growing up in India that we still honor here in the United States: Diwali. It is also my favorite Indian festivals, a five-day “festival of lights”, an ancient holiday still celebrated today more than a billion people.
Diwali is the most important festival in Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths, celebrated each year between mid-October to mid-November on the day of the new moon when the sky is at its darkest. While the origins behind the festival vary from faith to faith and region and region, where I grew up in northern India, Diwali commemorates the victory of King Rama as chronicled in the Hindu epic Ramayana. In the Epic, King Rama fought an evil king in Sri Lanka and brought his abducted wife back home to India. To celebrate his return, every house lit clay oil lamps (called diyas) to welcome them back. While the details of the “why” we celebrate are different in many places, it universally has themes of good triumphing over evil, light over dark, family and most importantly: hope.
Diwali in my memory was bathed in light, our homes, streets, businesses and markets all lit up by candles, diyas and oil lamps. In the sky, were the colorful bursts of even light from firework displays and firecrackers popping in the streets. There was dance, always dance and the spreading of joy…families coming together over great feasts. The occasion called for us all to be our best selves, clad in brilliantly flashy traditional clothing and jewelry paired with intricate hairstyles (that yes, included extensions)! All of this extravagance and joy was on the 3rd day of Diwali, and much like Christmas, it meant mithai (sweets) and presents. It was a time always important to my parents, as it had been to their parents before them. With “home” half a world away, it was nonetheless important for us to expose our American children to our culture and traditions as we have for many years.
When it comes to Diwali feasts, ours is always filling, fresh and richly flavored. My favorites dishes are simple comfort food that really can be celebrated during Diwali or even at your Thanksgiving table for something new and different. I wanted to share these two below with a refreshing holiday cocktail that is a personal favorite of mine: pomegranate and rosewater champagne cocktail!
Have a wonderful and bountiful Thanksgiving!
Stay gorgeous,
Gautama and Priyanka Swamy

]]>This timeless style suits any occasion during the holidays. To achieve classic curls, you can use a curling iron or hot rollers to create soft, bouncy curls. These curls exude a sense of sophistication and charm that's perfect for holiday parties and gatherings.
To maintain the curls' shape throughout the day, apply a light-hold hairspray that will keep your hair looking fresh and elegant.
For a more relaxed, beachy look that's perfect for holiday parties, consider messy waves. These loose, carefree waves are effortlessly chic and ideal for those casual holiday gatherings with friends and family.
You can achieve this look by using a curling wand to create loose waves in your hair. Finish it off with a texturizing spray to create a tousled effect, giving you that perfect, effortless appearance.
If you're going for a modern and chic appearance, a high curly ponytail is the way to go. This style works well for formal holiday events or even a festive dinner out.
To create this look, curl your hair with a curling iron, then gather it into a high ponytail. To add a touch of sophistication, wrap a small section of hair around the hair tie to hide it and secure it with a bobby pin. If you have a short hair but still want to achieve this look, consider using a curly hair extension.
Elevate your holiday style with an elegant curly updo. This sophisticated hairstyle is ideal for formal events or elegant holiday dinners. To achieve this look, curl your hair and gather it into a low bun or chignon. Use bobby pins and hairpins to secure the updo in place, leaving some tendrils to frame your face and create a soft, romantic look.
For those who want to showcase their beautiful curls while keeping their hair off their face, the half-up, half-down curls style is a perfect choice. This versatile style works well for various holiday occasions, from casual to formal. Curl your hair and secure the top half in a half-up style with a decorative clip or hair tie for a polished, put-together appearance.
Creating stunning curls without the use of heat is possible with the headband curls method. This no-heat, no-fuss approach is great for those who want to avoid damaging their hair. To achieve this look, simply place a headband over your hair and wrap sections of your hair around it. Leave it on for a few hours or overnight for natural, heat-free curls that are perfect for any holiday event.
Combine the beauty of braids with the elegance of curls with the braided curly crown hairstyle. This regal and sophisticated look is excellent for more formal holiday gatherings. To create this style, start by making Dutch braids on each side of your head, starting from the temples. Then, curl the remaining hair and secure the braids at the back for a look that's fit for a holiday queen.
Transform your beautiful curls into an eye-catching fishtail braid. This style is both elegant and unique, making it ideal for standing out at holiday events. To achieve this look, divide your hair into two sections and fishtail braid it. After braiding, gently pull apart the braid to make it look thicker and fuller, adding to the overall allure of your holiday hairstyle.
Sweep your curly locks to one side for a sophisticated holiday appearance that's sure to impress. This style is versatile and works well for both formal and casual gatherings. To create it, curl your hair, then use bobby pins to secure it to one side. Finish it off with hairspray to keep the curls in place throughout your holiday celebration.
Embrace a retro look with vintage-inspired curls. This glamorous and timeless style is perfect for those who appreciate the classics. To achieve this look, use hot rollers or pin curls to create tight, defined curls. Then, gently brush out the curls to create a glamorous, old Hollywood style that's sure to make a statement at any holiday event.
Now that you've got some fantastic holiday curly hairstyles to choose from, let's discuss how to ensure your curly hair looks its best during the holiday season. To maintain healthy and beautiful curls, it's essential to incorporate proper hair care practices and styling techniques into your routine.
Keep your curls well-hydrated by using a high-quality conditioner and a leave-in conditioner. Hydrated hair is less prone to frizz and breakage, ensuring that your curls look healthy and vibrant throughout the holiday season.
While it's tempting to experiment with different curly hairstyles, be cautious not to overuse heat styling tools. Excessive heat can lead to hair damage, so try to limit your use of curling irons, straighteners, and other heated styling tools during the holidays.
After styling, apply a hair serum to add shine and prevent frizz. A quality hair serum will keep your curls looking polished and elegant, ensuring they remain manageable and attractive throughout the holidays.
Keep your curls in tip-top shape by scheduling regular trims with your hairstylist. Trimming your hair helps eliminate split ends and maintain its overall health and appearance. Well-maintained curls are essential for a stunning holiday hairstyle.
Invest in products specifically designed to enhance and define your natural curls. These products can help your curls stay in place longer, and they often contain ingredients that promote curl retention, keeping your hair looking fabulous throughout your holiday celebrations.
With the right care and styling, curly hairstyles can be a gorgeous addition to your holiday look. Whatever style you choose, these hairstyles will make you the star of any holiday gathering.
So, this holiday season, flaunt your natural curls or create them for a stunning, festive look that's sure to turn heads. Choose the perfect curly hairstyle that complements your personal style and the occasion, and celebrate the holidays in style and confidence.

]]>Before becoming a citizen of the United States, growing up in India I was only too aware of the crushing poverty and need everywhere I looked. Even today over 228.9 million people are living in poverty in India, with mothers living in fear of where the next meal for their children and families will come from. As I talked about in my recent articles after returning home to India this past summer with my daughter, villages in India are still underdeveloped and lack progressive thinking. This environment of desperation has become a breeding ground for cons, opportunism and black market dealings that take advantage of the disadvantaged. The topic of “ethically sourced hair” has thankfully become more known today than it used to be, as the black market for human hair has become big business.
A popular alcoholic drink called toddy as well as other homegrown alcohols further exacerbate the situation as there, as here, people turn to alcohol to try and escape from their reality and feelings. Farmers and laborers, lacking access to education and turning to alcoholism inevitably leads to women and child abuse. It’s a cycle of trauma that passes on from one generation to the next, broken only when people are given options and a path to break free of it.
This past March the very first India Giving Day took place to encourage the 2.7 million immigrants who came to the United States and became citizens to give back to our native country. Organized by the India Philanthropy Alliance made up of 14 different American nonprofit organizations, over $60 million was raised to fund healthcare, education, gender equality and other needs. Their goal is to triple that amount in the next few years and helping fund humanitarian projects and build out education and infrastructure to allow people who want to work, who are desperate to work the jobs and skills to do so.
When my husband Gautama and myself founded Perfect Locks we didn’t just want to give women their confidence and dignity back when it came to their hair, but also help women and build communities back in India. We wouldn’t exist, nor would you have the kind of hair you love if not for the sacrifice of women giving their hair willingly at temples during the ritual of tonsure. We wanted to not just take from this region, but help build the communities these amazing women live in and by extension help their families.
During my trip this summer with my daughter we visited our factory there and I had a wonderful day meeting the talented women, true artists of wefts, who make the products you enjoy. Spending the day with them we talked about children and lives, their wishes and dreams and every one of them is treated well and paid well for their skills. The women at our factories range from 25 years old to 65 years old, many of them related…all working together and teaching one another. Their skills vary, but everyone is valued with whatever they can contribute. Jobs range from sorting and washing to hand sewing and hand knotting. Beyond fairness, they are all given a path forward, to grow their skills and knowledge and rise in position. For older women or women who may have medical issues such as arthritis, etc. we give them lighter jobs so they are still able to work and take home money.
One of the workers shared her thoughts with me in a video I wanted to share with you in which she expressed her gratitude for her job and how it’s allowed her to become an independent woman and provide for her family.
Below are the questions and answers translated:
I am so proud to know these women, so proud to provide for these women and love the way in which they are all there for each other. They are empowered, breaking free of a cycle, and together are building a future for their families.
At the end my day, I can sleep well knowing that halfway around the world food is being put on the tables and you are smiling in the mirror at your beautiful hair. Now THAT is some social good.
Stay gorgeous,
Priyanka Swamy
]]>Genius wefts are a type of hair extension that represents an innovative and high-quality approach to hair augmentation. These extensions are meticulously crafted by skilled professionals who hand-tie individual strands of hair onto a weft - a thin strip or base. The term "Genius" refers to the level of craftsmanship and precision involved in their creation. At Perfect Locks, we call appropriately call them "Perfect Wefts" and they are launching in November of 2023!
Making genius wefts involves the fusion of two different techniques – hand-tied and machine weft. This hybrid approach combines the meticulousness of hand-tying individual hair strands with the sturdiness of a machine-made weft base. The result is a hair extension that offers the best of both worlds – the natural look and lightweight feel of hand-tied extensions with the durability and longevity of machine weft extensions.
What sets genius wefts apart is the detailed craftsmanship involved in their production. Skilled professionals hand-tie individual strands of hair onto a weft, creating a seamless, natural look. This meticulous process ensures that the hair remains securely attached to the weft, reducing shedding and ensuring longevity.
Wearing weft extensions has a lot of benefits and most women prefer weft extensions over other types of extensions because they want to achieve a natural look and feel. Genius wefts excel in this aspect, thanks to the fact that each weft is hand-tied. The individual strands of hair are attached in a way that mimics the natural growth pattern of your hair, making them virtually undetectable.
The hybrid nature of genius wefts combines the strength of machine weft extensions with the comfort of hand-tied extensions. This means you get a robust, long-lasting product that's also lightweight and comfortable to wear.
Hand-tied weft hair extensions are a meticulous and manual method of extending one's hair. Skilled technicians carefully tie individual strands of human hair onto a thin weft or fabric strip. This technique results in extensions that look remarkably natural, seamlessly blending with the wearer's own hair.
Hand-tied wefts are prized for their lightweight and comfortable feel, making them suitable for everyday use. They allow for versatile styling, including curling, straightening, and coloring, just like natural hair.
However, it's essential to note that they may require more maintenance and adjustments to keep them securely in place.
Like genius wefts, hand-tied extensions offer a natural look that seamlessly blends with your own hair. The hand-tying process allows for a more natural distribution of hair, preventing the extensions from appearing bulky or artificial.
One of the key advantages of hand-tied wefts is that they lay flat against the scalp. This means that when they are applied to your natural hair, they don't create any noticeable bumps or unevenness. This flatness reduces the risk of discomfort or tension on your hair and scalp, which can be common with other types of hair extensions that might pull or tug on your natural hair.
Hand-tied wefts are also known for their lightweight nature. This means that when you wear them, they don't feel heavy or burdensome on your head, making them suitable for everyday wear.
While hand-tied weft extensions are durable, they may require more maintenance compared to machine weft extensions. Regular repositioning and adjustments are essential to ensure they stay in place.
Machine weft hair extensions are a type of hair extension created through an automated manufacturing process. In this method, human or synthetic hair strands are mechanically stitched onto a sturdy fabric base. This efficient production process allows for mass production, making these extensions accessible and cost-effective.
Machine weft extensions are known for their quick installation, providing instant volume and length to the hair. Their durability is a standout feature, ensuring a longer lifespan and making them a practical choice for those who want extensions that can withstand various styling treatments and activities.
However, some individuals may find them slightly less comfortable than other methods due to their thicker weft base.
Machine weft extensions are quick to install, making them a popular choice for those seeking a faster hair transformation. They are typically thicker, providing instant volume and length.
Due to their sturdy construction, machine weft extensions tend to be more durable and have a longer lifespan compared to hand-tied wefts. This can make them a cost-effective option in the long run.
While machine weft extensions are durable, some people find them slightly less comfortable than hand-tied or Genius Wefts due to their thicker weft base.
Choosing between genius wefts, hand-tied, or machine weft hair extensions ultimately depends on your individual preferences and needs. Here are some considerations:
Perfect Locks’ introduction of genius wefts, also known as "the Perfect Weft" allow you to choose from a wide array of options to suit your preference and budget.
Regardless if you choose genius wefts, hand-tied, or machine-weft hair extensions, the key is to choose the type that aligns with your unique style, comfort, and maintenance needs. With the right choice, you can achieve the luscious hair you've always dreamed of, effortlessly blending it with your natural hair for a flawless look.
]]>Below, we will show you how to protect hair from the cold weather, ensuring it remains lustrous and healthy throughout the winter season.
Cold weather can dehydrate your hair, making it prone to dryness and brittleness. To counteract this, maintaining adequate hydration is essential. You can achieve this by using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner formulated to add moisture to your hair, preventing dryness and breakage.
Regular deep conditioning treatments should also be incorporated into your hair care routine, as they offer intense hydration and repair for damaged hair. It's also advisable to avoid hot water when washing your hair as it can exacerbate dryness. Instead, opt for lukewarm or cool water to preserve your hair's moisture.
Frequent washing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it more vulnerable to cold weather damage. Try to wash your hair less often, ideally every 2-3 days, to allow your scalp to maintain its natural oils and protect your hair from the cold.
If you must use heat styling tools such as hair dryers, curling irons, or straighteners, always use a heat protectant spray. Heat protectants create a barrier between your hair and the high temperatures of styling tools, reducing the risk of damage.
One of the simplest ways to protect your hair from cold weather is to cover it when you go outside. Wearing a hat or a scarf can shield your hair from the cold wind and prevent it from becoming dry and brittle.
If you wear hair extensions, it's essential to take extra care to protect them from cold weather. Consider using a silk or satin scarf to cover your extensions when going outside. Additionally, follow the same hydration and protection tips mentioned above to keep both your natural hair and extensions in great condition.
Frequent brushing of your hair in cold weather can increase the risk of breakage, as the combination of mechanical stress and the already fragile nature of winter hair can lead to issues like split ends and damage. To protect your hair, opt for gentle tools like wide-toothed combs or soft-bristle brushes and employ a careful detangling technique by starting from the ends and gradually working your way up to the roots.
This method prevents unnecessary tension on your hair strands and minimizes breakage. Additionally, avoid brushing wet hair, use a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray, and consider a silk or satin pillowcase for overall hair health and vitality during the colder months.
Regular trims are essential for maintaining healthy hair as they prevent split ends from worsening and promote overall hair health and growth. By trimming the tips every 6-8 weeks, you eliminate damaged ends, reducing the risk of breakage and enhancing manageability. This practice also encourages hair growth and ensures a polished appearance while allowing you to customize your hairstyle.
Regardless of your hair type, regular trims are a fundamental aspect of a comprehensive hair care routine, contributing to stronger, more vibrant locks.
Natural oils like coconut oil, argan oil, and jojoba oil can be your hair's best friends during cold weather. These oils help lock in moisture and provide a protective barrier against harsh environmental conditions. Apply a small amount of oil to your hair, focusing on the ends, before going outside.
Indoor heating systems, often used during cold weather, can create dry indoor air, which can harm your hair by making it dry and brittle while also leading to scalp issues. To counteract these effects, using a humidifier in your home is highly beneficial.
Humidifiers add moisture to the air, maintaining optimal humidity levels and preventing your hair from drying out. This helps keep your hair hydrated, reducing frizz and promoting a shinier, smoother appearance.
A well-moisturized scalp supports healthy hair growth and minimizes problems like dandruff. Ensuring your hair and scalp remain comfortable and adequately hydrated, a humidifier is a valuable tool to combat the drying consequences of indoor heating.
Choosing gentle hair accessories like silk scrunchies or hairpins without sharp edges is essential, especially in cold weather when hair is more fragile. These hair-friendly accessories reduce friction and prevent breakage, which can be exacerbated by harsh accessories with metal clasps or sharp edges.
Cold weather already weakens hair, making it prone to damage. By using soft, smooth accessories, you can safeguard your hair's health, minimizing the risk of tangling, breakage, and split ends. Opt for alternatives like scrunchies and be gentle when styling and removing accessories to maintain your hair's appearance and strength during the winter months.
In the winter, it's advisable to reduce or postpone chemical treatments like hair coloring or perming due to their potential to weaken hair structure. These processes, which involve the use of chemicals, can make your hair more vulnerable to cold-weather damage, including breakage, split ends, and frizz. Weakened hair is less equipped to withstand the harsh effects of cold temperatures, low humidity, and dry indoor heating.
If you must undergo a chemical treatment, opt for milder options, such as temporary or semi-permanent hair color. Additionally, prioritize a robust winter hair care routine that includes deep conditioning, regular moisturizing, and protective measures like wearing hats or scarves to safeguard your hair from the cold.
Using hair extensions can be a game-changer for minimizing chemical treatments and embracing your natural beauty. Perfect Locks understands the importance of preserving your hair's health, and our superior human hair extensions can help you achieve that effortlessly. By adding length, volume, or even a pop of color with our curly hair extensions, you can reduce the need for constant coloring, heat styling, and chemical treatments that might harm your locks. With the right extensions, you'll be amazed at how your hair can transform, allowing you to confidently rock your gorgeous, low-maintenance tresses while feeling like the best version of yourself.
Excessive indoor heating can contribute to dry hair and scalp. Try to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature without making it too dry. You can also use a humidifier to counteract the drying effects of indoor heating.
Protecting your hair from cold weather doesn't have to be complicated. By following these simple tips, you can maintain the health and beauty of your hair throughout the winter season. Treat it with a little extra care so you can enjoy lustrous and healthy hair even in the coldest of weather.

Fighting for your life by undergoing radiation and chemotherapy can be devastating. These treatments kill cancer cells and their side effects include significant hair loss. Even after chemotherapy and on your way to recovery, you may still experience hair loss.
Below are a few solutions you can try to reduce hair loss and protect your hair:
Scalp cooling caps, also known as cold caps, can reduce the risk of hair loss during chemotherapy. These caps work by cooling the scalp, which narrows blood vessels and reduces the amount of chemotherapy that reaches hair follicles. Although not 100% effective, many women have successfully preserved their hair using scalp cooling caps.
If you see your hair falling out during chemotherapy, consider getting a shorter haircut or shaving your head. Short hair is easier to deal with, and it can make you feel more in charge of how you look. This can help you feel better about yourself and less worried about losing your hair. It's also a way to take control and feel confident as you go through breast cancer treatment.
Scarves and hats are practical and fashionable options for covering a bare head. They provide protection from the sun and help maintain body heat.
Wigs and hair extensions come in various styles, colors, and materials. They offer a natural-looking alternative to your own hair and can boost your confidence. Additionally, these hair styling products come in different lengths, allowing you to change your look based on your mood or the occasion.
For those who have bravely battled cancer and faced the challenges of hair loss due to treatments, the process of regrowing hair can be a trying one. Hair fibers can play a pivotal role in this journey. These tiny, natural fibers can instantly create the appearance of thicker, fuller hair, providing a sense of normalcy and self-assurance during a time of transformation.
Not everyone undergoing chemotherapy will lose their hair, and the extent and pattern of hair loss can vary depending on the specific drugs and dosages used. If you’re one of those who did not experience hair loss during chemo, you can still do these tips to ensure you prevent further damage to your hair after the treatment:
If you didn't lose your hair during chemotherapy, continue your hair care routine for it as you normally would. Use gentle and sulfate-free hair products to avoid damage.
Your hair may still be thin or fragile, even if you didn't lose it completely. Be patient and give your hair time to recover. Remember, hair growth is a gradual process, and it may take several months before you notice significant improvement.
Minimize the use of heat-styling tools like hairdryers, curling irons, and straighteners. Heat can further weaken your hair. Instead, consider air-drying your hair or using heat-protectant products when styling.
Some women find that natural remedies like castor oil, aloe vera, and coconut oil can promote hair health. Consult your healthcare provider before using any new products. These natural remedies can help moisturize your scalp and strengthen your hair, aiding in the recovery process.
Here are a few steps you can do to promote hair growth after your chemotherapy or radiation treatment:
Eating a balanced diet can help promote hair growth. Include foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains in your diet because these foods are rich in vitamins and minerals. Vitamins and minerals such as biotin, vitamin E, and zinc can contribute to stronger, healthier hair.
Gentle scalp massages can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles, promoting growth. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp in circular motions. Regular massages can improve the circulation of nutrients to your hair follicles, encouraging hair growth.
Consult with your healthcare provider about taking hair growth supplements like biotin or vitamin E. These supplements can support your hair's health from the inside out. Be sure to follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for dosage and duration.
Consider consulting a dermatologist or trichologist for personalized advice on regrowing your hair. They can assess your specific needs and recommend treatments or medications that may aid in hair recovery. Remember that professional guidance can provide valuable insights into your unique situation.
During breast cancer recovery, dealing with hair loss can be challenging. However, there are various ways to manage and enhance your appearance. Here are some valuable tips:
Hair loss during breast cancer recovery can be challenging, but there are solutions to help you cope. Whether you choose to preserve your hair during chemotherapy, manage your existing hair, promote regrowth after treatment, or enhance your appearance with hair extensions, there are options that suit your needs. For a timeless Halloween look, embrace your natural curls and create classic witchy waves with just a few simple steps. Start by washing and conditioning your hair, and then scrunch it gently using some mousse. Let your hair air dry to set those curls.
Once your curls are ready, part your hair down the middle for a symmetrical look. Use a curling wand to touch up any loose or straight sections, adding that extra magical touch to your hairstyle. To complete the perfect witchy vibe, accessorize with a witch hat and carry a broomstick. With these easy steps, you'll be ready to cast your spell and enchant everyone at your Halloween gathering.
Become the legendary Medusa for Halloween by creating a captivating hairstyle with these straightforward steps. Start by braiding small sections of your curly hair tightly, using them as the base for your Medusa-inspired look. Next, procure small rubber snakes, which can be easily found at costume or craft stores, and attach them to your braids using bobby pins. Arrange the rubber snakes to coil around the braids, resembling the serpentine hair of Medusa.
Ensure they are securely fastened to prevent any mishaps during your Halloween festivities. To enhance the Medusa effect, consider applying temporary green hair color spray to your locks, giving your hair a snake-like, otherworldly appearance. With this creative and simple approach, you'll transform into the captivating and mythical Medusa, leaving a lasting impression at your Halloween gathering.
For a cute and quick Halloween hairstyle, create cat ears with your curly hair. Part your hair down the middle and gather two small sections on top of your head, securing them with bobby pins to resemble cat ears. Add some cat-eye makeup, whiskers, and a black outfit, and you'll be a purr-fectly adorable cat for Halloween.
Transform into a spooky Spider Queen with this elegant updo. Begin by curling your hair with a curling iron or wand. Gather your curls into a high ponytail, leaving some loose strands to frame your face. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie and wrap a small section of hair around the base to conceal the tie. Use bobby pins to create a messy bun, allowing some curls to cascade down like spider legs. Finish the look with a spider-themed accessory or a spiderweb hairpin.
Channel your inner mermaid and achieve a captivating look with the natural texture of your curly hair. Begin by applying a sea salt spray to create those desirable beachy waves, enhancing the untamed beauty reminiscent of ocean waves. Elevate your style by adorning your mermaid-inspired hair with seashells or starfish hairpins, adding a whimsical touch that mirrors the treasures of the sea. To complete the enchanting transformation, don a shimmery mermaid costume in aquatic colors, like blues, greens, and iridescent shades. This cohesive ensemble will make you feel like you've just emerged from the depths of the ocean, ready to captivate everyone with your mystical sea creature allure.
Unleash your inner unicorn with a whimsical unicorn horn hairstyle. Begin by curling your hair and gathering it into a high ponytail. Twist the ponytail to create a horn-like shape, securing it with bobby pins. Use colorful hair chalk or temporary hair dye to add vibrant rainbow colors to your curls. Top it off with a unicorn headband or a horn-shaped hair accessory for an enchanting Halloween look.
Transform into a seductive vampire vixen with an alluring curly hairstyle that will leave a lasting impression. Begin by crafting voluminous, well-defined curls and part your hair down the middle for that timeless vampire elegance. Elevate your look by applying temporary red or burgundy hair color spray, adding a touch of vampiric allure to your locks. Accessorize with fangs, a quintessential element of the vampire mystique, and don a flowing velvet cape that exudes sophistication and mystique. Enhance your captivating appearance with dramatic makeup, focusing on deep, dark shades for your eyes and lips, to create a mesmerizing and irresistible charm. With this enchanting ensemble, you'll embody the seductive charm of a vampire vixen and make a dramatic entrance at any Halloween gathering.
If you want to add extra length and volume to your curly hair for a Halloween hairstyle, consider using hair extensions. Transform into the iconic fairytale character Rapunzel by incorporating hair extensions for ultra-long locks. Begin by clipping in or gluing in hair extensions that match your curly hair's texture and color. Make sure to secure them firmly to avoid any mishaps during your Halloween festivities.
Once the extensions are in place, create a high ponytail with your natural and extended hair. Wrap a ribbon or a hair accessory around the base of the ponytail to make it look like Rapunzel's tower. You can even add some artificial flowers for a whimsical touch. With your long, flowing locks, you'll be the belle of the Halloween ball, just like the beloved princess from the fairy tale.
This Halloween, don't let your curly hair go to waste. Embrace your natural texture and get creative with these Halloween hairstyles. Whether you opt for classic witchy waves, transform into mythical creatures like Medusa or a mermaid, or experiment with hair extensions for a Rapunzel-inspired look, your curly locks can be a fantastic addition to your Halloween costume. Over time abnormal cells or cancer cells can form in the lobules or ducts before spreading to the the tissue. The most common culprit and risk factor is increased lifetime exposure to hormones such as estrogen. There are many different factors that can affect your chances of developing breast cancer. There’s no one single reason – it results from a combination of the way we live our lives, our genes and our surrounding environment.
Surprising fact: Breastfeeding a child for 6 months to a year can actually lower the risk of both breast and ovarian cancers.
Breast cancer most commonly presents as a painless lump or thickening in the breast. It is important that women finding an abnormal lump in the breast consult a health practitioner without a delay of more than 1-2 months even when there is no pain associated with it. Seeking medical attention at the first sign of a potential symptom allows for more successful treatment.
Generally, symptoms of breast cancer include:
While yearly mammograms are incredibly important, you can also self check yourself for any lumps, however recent studies have shown that this has minimal impact on detection. While the American Cancer Society no longer recommends breast self-exam, Breastcancer.org still considers it to be a helpful tool when couples with yearly exams. If you want to self-check, breastcancer.org has a simply five-step process for a self-exam.
5% to 10% of breast cancers are caused by gene mutations inherited from a parent (changes in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes). Women with a BRC1 mutation have a 55% to 65% chance of developing breast cancer in a lifetime, while those with the BRCA2 gene have a 45% lifetime risk. While genetics, gender and family history are all factors out of your control, the factors within your control are lifestyle ones. Age, abuse of alcohol or tobacco, obesity, radiation exposure, or even postmenopausal hormone therapy all increase risk. However you can actively minimize your fisk in the following ways by up to 30%:
Once diagnosed and you receive a recommended treatment plan from your health care provider the Susan G. Komen Foundation recommends always considering getting a second opinion before you begin.
There are currently six types of treatment methods currently that include:
1: Not one disease but multiple and hormone status. One of the more current understandings of breast cancer is that it is being increasingly viewed as multiple different diseases. This discovery has led breast oncologists to create individualized treatment for each patient.
2: Targeted therapies offer options for HER2-Positive Cancers. Just a few decades ago they were the most aggressive and difficult to treat, but now they are the most successful to treat. The key to this change is “targeted therapies” include new drugs such as Herceptin that, a man-made protein that likes our own antibodies that attaches to the HER2 protein on the surface of cancer cells and stops them growing.
Radiation and the stress on the body during treatment can trigger hair loss, but new options such as ice caps during chemotherapy treatments can minimize the damage to the hair follicle. Moreover, wigs, toppers and other add-on hair options are more realistic looking and discrete today than they were decades ago.
Here at Perfect Locks we have detailed articles on all of the options available to you and our trained staff is always ready to have a discrete, empathetic conversation with you to help you decide. You’re not in this alone.
