Part II: How Do You Color Wefted Hair Before Installation?
Happy Friday!
We’re back to give you the rest of the instructions on how to accurately apply color to your hair extensions. Coloring your hair extensions will give you the high lights or low lights that you’d desire to have.
Coloring:
Right before you color your hair, mix the colors together. The ending color should look very creamy with uniform color.
Next find your gloves and color brush and one foil at the time, paint the it with a thin layer of color from about 1.5″ from the top of the foil.
Now it’s time to lay a layer of your wefted hair onto a layer of color. Make sure your hair is almost completely dry before laying it on the color, however.
With your wefted hair, loosely staple every 2 inches to the foil-covered cardboard. Be sure that you are doing this directly onto the woven portion of the track. You will want to leave about 1″ from the top while you leave the hair on the foil.
Being careful to cover the entire section of hair, paint your desired color onto the wefted hair from the thread. Don’t do it on the thread though. If you don’t use all of your color, reserve the rest of it.
Next let your hair process for up to 25 minutes. Then with the remaining color, feather it on the thread of the weft. Now with 1.5″ portions of hair (the wefted hair with color on it,) twist your hair into color dreads of sorts. This will make sure that the color is evenly dispersed through the hair and saturates all of the hair evenly as well.
For the rest of your hair, allow it to process for another 10 minutes. After 10 minutes remove your wefted hair locks from the cardboard. Thoroughly rinse your hair with shampoo.
For your last coloring step, apply the K-Pak. Keep it away from the threaded portion however because you don’t want your bonding to come undone. Keep it on your hair for up to 15 minutes and rinse it out again.
You’re almost done, but we have one more step to share with you! We’ll meet you back here on Monday to give you the scoop and the finishing steps on how to color your wefts. Until then have a great weekend!
