Ode to the ‘90s: Box Braid Hairstyles are Trending!

Celebrities Box Braids Ode to the ‘90s: Box Braid Hairstyles are Trending!

It seems like box braids have returned with a vengeance as one of the hot new hairstyles.  Janet Jackson, who is the reason for the phrase “Poetic Justice braids”, was recently spotted rocking her signature ‘do and R&B superstar Brandy returned to the style in her video for Put It Down.  Box braid hairstyles are very low maintenance and as summertime approaches, it will be perfect poolside hair!

To keep the look current, try medium sized waist length braids and please for the love of all things holy, do NOT burn the ends with a lighter!  Instead the ends loose and dip in hot water for a smooth finish.  To prevent unraveling dab a bit of hair glue to the last intertwine of the braid.  If you choose to use synthetic hair, it can be a bit cumbersome to style and work with and extremely heavy when wet; Not exactly what we want when frolicking in the ocean!  Another option is to try box braids using bulk human hair ala Beyonce in her early Destiny’s Child days.   Bulk virgin Indian hair is non wefted so you can have it braided into any style you choose, just be sure your braider does not fold completely in half because the cuticles will no longer be aligned which will encourage tangling.  Leave the ends loose for a gorgeous beach ready hairstyle.

To maintain box braids, spray daily with a moisturizing leave in conditioner and co-wash regularly.  Clarify about once a month to remove buildup.  Don’t forget that virgin Indian bulk hair can be reused so gather the hair carefully when removing.
