Give Yourself a Makeover on a Budget

Looking your best is a great way to boost your self esteem, raise your self confidence and perform at your best. You don't have to be a celebrity to enjoy a great makeover. Here are a few ways that you can give yourself a total makeover without a Hollywood starlet's budget.
The first step in making yourself over is to visualize the change you want to see. Tell yourself that you are confident, self assured and beautiful. Your positive attitude will radiate all over, completing the first step in your total makeover.
Most women wear the same hairstyle year after year with very few variations. Changing your hairstyle can make a tremendous impact on how you look or feel about yourself. Are you moving into a higher position in your career? Consider a conservative, Michelle Obama-type layered cut. Want to look more youthful? Try adding human hair extensions that extend past your shoulders for a fun and flirty look. A clip on ponytailis versatile and can be pulled back into a bun or into a formal updo.
Adding color can have the same dramatic effect. Go from mousy brown to strawberry red, or from golden blonde to jet black. If you're not sure how these new changes will work for you, try temporary clip in extensions to test your new look.
Give yourself a home facial. A facial will open your pores, cleanse your skin and give you a fresh look. Start by thoroughly cleaning the skin with a cleanser (not harsh soaps). Try a cleanser with a soy base that won't irritate your skin.
Next, create a steam treatment for your face. Simply heat water on the stove or in the microwave until steaming. Drape a towel over your head and absorb the steam for 5 minutes. Add mint or green tea to the water for a soothing and cooling effect. The steamer will release dirt and oils and hydrate your skin.
Nothing says confidence like a bright white smile. Having white teeth will encourage to smile more, and add pizazz to your makeover. You don't have to go to a cosmetic dentist for expensive treatments. There are many over the counter treatments that will whiten your teeth for a fraction of a professional whitening. The key is to find a treatment whose first ingredient is peroxide. These products will whiten your teeth up to three shades within only a few weeks. The GoSmile Advanced formula B1 from Sephora ($89) is a favorite amongst do it yourself divas.
For a quick makeover, head over to your local cosmetics counter for a color consultation. Most makeup counters will do this for free (although they do expect you to buy something in return). Skip the sales pitch and select your makeup from your local pharmacy or discount store.
If you're not completely confident in selecting your own makeup, purchase the foundation, concealer and lip colors from the makeup counter. Then purchase staples like gloss, eyeliner, mascara and brushes from the pharmacy. Brushes, sponges and other tools are often more expensive if you purchase them from the makeup counter. The ones that you find at the discount stores do the exact same job for half the price.
A mini-makeover might be just what the doctor ordered to boost your self esteem, uplift your spirits and send your confidence soaring. Your do-it-yourself makeover is proof positive that you don't need a million bucks to look your best.
