All sorts of new trends in eye makeup premiered on the 2012 fall/winter runways, but one of the most noticeable and electrifying looks involved cobalt blue eye makeup. Notable examples of this royal trend were seen on the runways of L’Wren Scott, Anna Sui, and Stella McCartney. Although each designer used the same color, makeup artists applied it in completely different ways though the use of eyeliner, eye shadow, or mascara. Each application gave each collection a different feeling and vibe.
Cobalt Blue Winged Eyes at Anna Sui Were Marvelously Mod:
Talk about a look that requires some fashion bravery! Anna Sui’s models lids were covered with bright cobalt blue, spanning out into winged tips. If this look couldn’t get any more 60’s mod, Sui had makeup artists add a single cobalt blue dot under the center of each model’s bottom eyelid- a futuristic take that was totally reminiscent of Twiggy’s full bottom lashes. This look is certainly bold, but if you’re feeling up to a challenge, cobalt blue eye liner might be a fun addition to your next party outfit. This look should most likely be kept strictly for nighttime- not the office.
Lashes at Stella McCartney Were Out There in Both Length and Color:
Cobalt blue was also incorporated into the beauty look at Stella McCartney though in a completely different way. Models wore electric cobalt mascara and little other make-up. This shade fit in well with the color palette of her collection. Like the makeup at Anna Sui, full lashes- top and bottom- were reminiscent of Twiggy and the 60’s, although the mascara was simultaneously futuristic. The Stella McCartney look is probably the easiest to copy: you can either try on a pair of fake blue eyelashes or use the same mascara, YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Cils Waterproof Majorelle Blue. Once again, this look is probably not office-appropriate.
However, if you'd like to wear this look more than just during the weekends - wear it tomorrow on Halloween! Cobalt blue is a fun additional to a corpse bride costume, or even if you plan dressing up as Cleopatra! So don't be blue, incorporate blue into a smashing Halloween ensemble and have a great time.
