Beach Hair Care Tips

beach hair care tipsOceanfront vacations are always fun but no one wants to cart a bunch of hair care products in their beach bag!  On the other hand, a day on the beach could cause irreparable damage if proper care is not taken, which is completely unnecessary because beach hair is sexy and fun.

Before hitting the sand, douse your tresses in water and seal with your favorite oil.  This helps your hair stay hydrated longer while in the scorching sun and when you jump into the waves, your hair will absorb less salt water.  After prepping your hair, create two large cornrows or plaits on each side of your head and secure the ends with small elastic bands.  You can either allow the braids to dangle or tuck them up for a dutch crown hairstyle, whichever you prefer.

In your beach bag, all you need is a spray bottle filled with water + leave in conditioner and small container of whipped shea butter.  Every hour or so, rewet your hair with water to prevent the crispy dry feeling sun can cause. If you are wearing your natural hair, seal the ends with whipped shea butter, which contains a natural sunscreen for added protection.  If you are wearing hair extensions, just spraying with your water/conditioner mix will suffice. Sounds simple, but it is effective.  After the sun sets, unbraid your hair for beautiful messy beach waves for your evening style.  Effortless yet glamorous, it does not get much better than that!

Be sure to co-wash your hair at night to remove sand and salt water and once your vacation has concluded, clarify to thoroughly cleanse your scalp and hair and treat your hair to a moisturizing deep conditioning session to help your strands recover.  Have fun!
