    5 Summer Skin Saving Tips

While you enjoy frolicking in the sun, there are a few precautions you should take so your skin won’t show the results of all that time spent outdoors years down the road.

    Choose Your Sunscreen Wisely: Of course sunscreen is of ultimate importance, but there are some facts you need to know so you are properly protecting your skin. Before heading out for fun in the sun, always apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which means it absorbs 97% of ultraviolet radiation. Check the label for a phrase that says “broad spectrum” meaning it protects against both UVB and UVA radiation. If you will be in water, go for a waterproof formula. Regardless of the formula make sure you reapply your sunscreen every 60-90 minutes for round the clock protection.

    Make Water Your Best Friend: Staying hydrated is always important, but even moreso in scorching heat! Drink plenty of water throughout the day, at least 64 ounces (8 glasses) or more. If you will be spending an extended amount of time outdoors, prepare a spray bottle with chilled rosewater to spritz on your face for rehydration throughout the day. Not only will it refresh your skin, but it is natural perfume!

    Exfoliate: Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells, keeps pores unclogged and allows better absorption of your moisturizers for both face and body. Whether you choose chemical or physical exfoliants, be sure to use it regularly to reveal smoother, brighter skin.

    Keep Your Lips Kissably Soft: Exfoliation is essential for soft, smooth lips as well as your face. There are plenty of great lip scrubs on the market, but you can easily prepare your own with granulated brown sugar and olive oil. Use with a clean toothbrush for better exfoliation and smoother results.

    Moisturize Consistently: Nothing is worse than dry, peeling skin! Slather on a moisturizer with SPF during the day and at night use a rich cream or masque to rehydrate. In the summer months, switch to a natural oil with plenty of ceramides to improve skin elasticity instead of lotion for a natural glow to the skin on your body.

    Now go have fun and look great while doing it, your skin will thank you later!
